Verb Conjugation

Who it is for

Anyone who has acquired at least a basic understanding of the Arabic verb and now understands the ماض and the مضارع, and who now needs practice to strengthen that understanding across the various verb forms and the derived nouns.

What makes it unique is that it brings all the related concepts into one place — using the verbs most commonly used in the Qur’ān, with examples of their usage taken directly from the Qur’ān.

What it is

It conjugates all fourteen pronouns (ضمير) of a verb: the past (ماض), the three muḍāriʿ (مضارع) moods — مرفوع، منصوب، مجزوم — the imperative (أمر), and the passive (مجهول) of the first two. It also gives the derived nouns (مشتقات) for each root, as applicable — the verbal noun (مصدر), the active and passive participles (اسم فاعل، اسم مفعول), and the nouns of time, place and instrument (اسم الزمان والمكان، اسم الآلة).

The measure (وزن) is given for each form, so the pattern sits beside the word instead of having to be remembered. The letters added at the front and the back are coloured, so you can see what each prefix and suffix is doing — the marker of the muḍāriʿ (علامة المضارع), the doer (فاعل), the nūn (ن) of the marfūʿ (مرفوع). Both appear once you press Measure and Colours in the toolbar.

For each form the āyāt in which it occurs are quoted, with a translation, and with how many times it occurs in the Qur’ān — also shown as a shade across the table.

Each of these is there so the work can move from the easy forms to the harder ones at your own pace.

Thulāthī Mujarrad ثلاثي مجرد

The bare three-letter verb

Most Arabic verbs have three-letter roots, called Thulāthī Mujarrad. These are the fundamental words from which derived nouns (اسماء مشتقة) are constructed, and from which additional forms of verbs (مزيد فيه) are also constructed.

The trainer covers 300 of these roots — the ones most used in the Qur’ān — conjugating each in full and listing the nouns derived from it.
