Muḍāriʿ تَقِرُ, which by rule should be وَقَرٌ as maṣdar of وَقِرَتْ, but which is regular as maṣdar of وَقَرَتْ.

Less properly, the K gives وَقَرَ and وَقِرَ [as though signifying he (a man) was, or became, dull of hearing: or deaf:] with, which by rule should be وَقَرٌ, and وُقِرَ, like عُنِىَ.

Both of these occur in a tradition, according to different relations of it.

The word for "rested" here is ثَبَتَتْ.

This latter reading, or each of the two readings, is from القَرَارُ, that is, from قَرَّ, muḍāriʿ يَقَرُّ and يَقِرُّ, and is a contraction of إِقْرَرْنَ [or إِقْرِرْنَ].

[xxxiii. 33,] وَقِرْنَ فِى بُيُوتِكُنَّ [meaning, accord. to some, And be ye grave, &c., in your houses, or chambers]: (S, A:) or the meaning is, and sit ye, &c.: (TA:) and so another reading, وَقَزْنَ : (TA:) or this latter, (S,) or each of these two readings, (TA,) is from القَرَارُ , (S,) [i. e.,] from قَرَّ , aor. يَقَرُّ and يَقِرُّ ; (TA;) and is a contraction of إِقْرَرْنَ [or إِقْرِرْنَ ]. Maṣdar إِيقَارٌ and قِرَةٌ, the latter being irregular.

وَقَرَ, is explained by Golius, on the authority of Ibn-Maaroof, as meaning “gravavit, aggravavit.”

Gravity, staidness, steadiness, calmness. Synonymous with رَزَانَةٌ, حِلْمٌ, سَكِينَةٌ, and وَدَاعَةٌ.

تَيْقُورٌ is synonymous with وَقَارٌ [in this sense], of the measure فَيْعُولٌ, originally وَيْقُورٌ, the و being changed into ت [see Form 1]; or, according to some, it is synonymous with تَوْقِيرٌ.

El-ʿAjjáj says:

shāhid
فَإِنْ يَكُنْ أَمْسَى البِلَى تَيْقُورِى

— that is, امسى وَقَارِى. [And if wear, or waste, has become the cause of my gravity, etc.: or, if it is synonymous with تَوْقِيرِى, the cause of making me still, or quiet.]

Some make it of the measure تَفْعُولٌ, like تَذْنْوبٌ and the like.

That is, مَوْقُورَةٌ.

But ISd holds that وَقْرَى is used with a word left out, for ذَاتُ وَقْرَى, and is a maṣdar of the measure فَعْلَى, like حَلْقَى and عَقْرَى.

مَوْقُورٌ, in the same sense, is also applied to a ship.

[ مَوْقُورٌ , in the same sense, is also applied to a ship; as in the Expos. of the Jel, ii. 159.] نَخْلَةٌ مُوقَرَةٌ , (S, A, K,) and مُوقِرَةٌ , (S, K,) and مُوقِرٌ , (S, A, K,) like as one says, إِمْرَأَةٌ حَامِلٌ , (S,) and مُوقَرٌ , which is anomalous, (S, K,) and مِيقَارٌ , (K,) and مَوْقُورَةٌ , (A,) and مُوَقَّرَةٌ , (K,) A palm-tree laden, or heavily laden, with fruit; (A, K;) abounding in fruit: (S:) pl. [of the first, second, third, and fourth,] مَوَاقِرُ , (S, K,) and [of ميقار and موقورة ,] مَوَاقِيرُ . (A.) See also وَقِيرٌ .
