maṣdarوَقتٌmuḍāriʿيَقِتُ
Core sense — he determined, or appointed, a time for a thinggenerated
1.1he declared [or appointed] a time in which it should be done—وَقَتَهُ
. Also وقّت, maṣdar تَوْقِيتٌ. He determined, defined, or limited, a thing as to time; and also, he determined, or defined, times.
God has determined, or defined, a time for prayer—وَقَتَ اللّٰهُ الصلَاةَ
Muḍāriʿ يَقِتُ and وَقَّتَهَا.
he appointed a particular time for doing a thing—وقّت
أَقَّتَ has the same meaning.
[I appointed him, or it, for such a day]—وَقَّتُّهُ لِيَوْمِ كَذَا
Like أَجَّلْتُهُ.
1.1.1and when the Apostles shall have one [particular] time assigned to them to decide between the people—وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ
In the Kur. 77. 11. اقتت is a dialectal variant of وُقِّتَتْ, as أُجُوهٌ is of وُجُوهٌ.
Meaning the people to whom they have been sent to preach.
Or: they shall be collected at their appointed time, on the day of resurrection.
This is the general reading, but there are other readings: وُقِّتَتْ, وُقِتَتْ, and وُوقِتَتْ, the last of the measure فُوعِلَتْ, from المُوَاقَتَةُ.
1.1.2he (Mohammad) did not determine, for [drinking wine,] a castigation consisting of a certain number [of blows, or stripes]—لَمْ يَقِتْ فى الخَمْرِ حَدًّا
1.1.3he [i.e. God] made obligatory upon men the entering upon the state of إِحْرَام in pilgrimage—وَقَتَ
Sometimes used in this sense; it covers also prayer at the beginning of its appointed time.
1.1.4he appointed Dhu-l-Ḥuleyfeh, for the people of El-Medeeneh, as the place where they should enter upon the state of إِحْرَام—وَقَّتَ لِأَهْلِ المَدِينَةِ ذَا الحُلَيْفَةِ

, aor. يَقِتُ , inf. n. وَقتٌ ; and وقّت , inf. n. تَوْقِيتٌ ; He determined, defined, or limited, a thing as to time; (IAth, L, Msb;) and otherwise: (L, Msb:) he determined, or defined, times. (S, K.) وَقَتَهُ He declared [or appointed] a time in which it should be done. (S.) وَقَتَ اللّٰهُ الصلَاةَ , aor. يَقِتُ ; and وَقَّتَهَا , God hath determined, or defined, a time for prayer. (Msb.) وقّت , as also أَقَّتَ , He assigned, or appointed, for a thing, a particular time; he assigned, or appointed, a particular time for doing a thing.
