Plural وَفْدٌ — or rather this first is an ism jamʿ — and وُفَّدٌ and وُفَّادٌ; and the plural of وَفْدٌ is أَوْقَادٌ and وُفُودٌ.

وَفْدٌ is also explained as a party that assembles together and comes to a country or town; a party that goes to princes, or governors, to visit and to ask aid, assistance, or some benefit; a party that comes to a king about an affair of conquest, or for congratulation, or the like; En-Nawawee: a company chosen to go forth for the purpose of having an interview with great men. Also a company of riders; and Zj, explaining the same verse of the Qur'ān: a company riding and honoured.

But from the explanations in the K and other lexicons it seems to mean a party coming, whether walking or riding, chosen for the purpose of having an interview with great men or not; the explanations of En-Nawawee and some others may follow general or conventional usage, and those of the rest may be proper, or literal.
