Form 1وَرِثَ1 sense
maṣdarوِرْثٌmuḍāriʿيَرِثُ

Core sense — he inherited the property of his fathergenerated

1.1figurative · مجازhe inherited [the property of] his fatherوَرِثَ أَبَاهُ

He inherited., which is a departure from a constant rule: the only verbs of the measure فَعِلَ whose muḍāriʿ is of the measure يَفْعِلُ only are وَثِقَ وَرِثَ وَرِعَ وَرِمَ وَرِىَ وَفِقَ وَلِىَ and وَمِقَ (Ibn-Málik and others), and وَصِبَ.

The و falls out in يَرِثُ [&c.] because it comes between ى and kesreh; and it falls out in those persons of the muḍāriʿ which begin with ا, ت and ن, because these letters are changed from ى, which is the original.

and إِرْثٌ, in which the و is changed into أ, and رِثَةٌ, in which the ة stands in place of the [elided] و, and وِرَاثَةٌ [the most common form], and إِرَاثَةٌ, and, according to some, مِيرَاثٌ — but this is a mistake, for مِفْعَالٌ is not one of the measures of maṣdars, [though some professors of practical law do use it as a maṣdar,] and تُراثٌ (but see وِرْثٌ below).

he inherited the property of his fatherوَرِثَ مَالَ أَبِيهِ
he inherited of his fatherوَرِثَ مِنْ أَبِيهِ

This is the original phrase.

Also عَنْهُ.

he inherited the thing of, or from, his fatherوَرِثَ الشَّىْءَ مِنْ أَبِيهِ
[Zeyd inherited of his father property]وَرِثَ زَيْدٌ أَبَاهُ مَالًا

Or: he inherited part of the property of his father.

Here مالا is a second object, if the verb is doubly transitive; or it is a substitute of implication for زيد.

I inherited his propertyوَرِثْتُهُ مَالَهُ
I inherited his gloryمَجْدَهُ
I inherited it from himوَرِثْتُهُ عَنْهُ

When you say وَرِثَ زَيْدٌ أَبَاهُ مَالًا [Zeyd inherited of his father property], the word مالا is a second objective complement, if the verb be doubly trans.; or it is a substitute of implication ( بَدَلُ ٱشْتِمَالٍ ) for زيد . (MF.) You say وَرِثْتُهُ مَالَهُ , and مَجْدَهُ , I inherited his property, and, his glory: and وَرِثْتُهُ عَنْهُ I inherited it from him. (TA.)

Core sense — an heir; one who remains after all others have perishedgenerated

1

An heir. Plural وُرَّاث and وَرَثَةٌ.

1.1O God, let me enjoy my hearing and my sight, and make it continue with me until I dieأَللّٰهُمَّ أَمْتِعْنِى بِسَمْعِى وَبَصَرِى وَٱجْعَلْهُ الوَارِثَ منِّى

Said in a prayer of Mohammad. It may also mean: make it (that is, the enjoyment prayed for) survive me.

According to another relation, which puts وَٱجْعَلْهُمَا in place of واجعله: make them both continue with me, sound, until I die.

Or, as some say, what is meant is the continuance and strength of those two faculties in old age, so that they may outlast all the other powers: so says ISh.

Some say that by سَمْع is meant remembering what is heard and acting according to it, and by بَصَر being admonished by what is seen, and the light of the heart, by which one escapes from perplexity and darkness to the right course.

1.2He who remains after the creatures have perishedالوَارِثُ
