Of the same measure as وَسِعَهُ or وَذَرَهُ: this is the original past tense, of which the muḍāriʿ is given here. Synonymous with يَدَعُهُ and يَتْرُكُهُ; the imperative is synonymous with دَعْهُ.
But the past tense is not used; تَرَكَهُ is used in its place. Because its past tense is not used, the muḍāriʿ is of the measure يَفْعَلُ; for if there were a past tense, [it would most probably be of the measure فَعَلَ, as this is the regular measure of transitive unaugmented triliteral verbs, and] the muḍāriʿ would be of the measure يَفْعُلُ or يَفْعِلُ.
The maṣdar is not used either: تَرْكٌ is used instead, that is, instead of وَذْرٌ. Nor is the ism fāʿil وَاذِرٌ used; تَارِكٌ is used in its place.
Or the past tense is sometimes used, though rarely, or by a departure from the constant course of speech: so in the K. But in the M it is said that the phrase لَمْ أَذِرْ وَرَآئِى شَيْئًا [I left not behind me anything, with kesr to the ذ, and so in the original copy of the TT,] is related on the authority of some of the Arabs.
