Core sense — the face; a course, purpose, or direction; a way or modegenerated
1I resigned, or resign, myself to God—أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِى للّٰه
That is, I became, or become, a Muslim.
وجه stands here for the whole person, because it is the most noble part; or ذاتى means my course.
1.1in every respect; considered from every point of view—مِنْ كُلِّ وَجْهٍ
1.2the [proper or reasonable] way is that it should be like this—الوَجْهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ كَذَا
Or: the valid and obvious way. See تُرْعَةٌ.
1.3a course, a purpose, or an object which one is pursuing—وَجْهٌ
Also a direction in which one is going or looking, and the like; and so جِهَةٌ.
1.5there is no truth, or correctness, in what you say—لَيْسَ لِكَلاَمِكَ وَجْهٌ
1.6brightness [of intellect]—وَجْهٌ

1.7for the sake of God, or to gain God's countenance or favour—لِوَجْهِ ٱللّٰهِ
Kur 76:9.

1.9there is no reasonable way of accounting for it—لَا وَجْهَ لَهُ

Said of a word or phrase and the like.
Or: it is not the proper way.
Perhaps the same as لَيْسَ بِوَجِيةٍ.
1.11from a desire of God's recompense—اِبْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللّٰهِ
Kur 2:274.
Or countenance, meaning favour.
Several similar phrases occur in the Kur, where وجه is explained in this same sense of ثَوَابٌ.
1.12[he withheld him, or restrained him, from his course, purpose, or object]—جَبَسَهُ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ

Hence, وَجْهُ الطَّرِيقِ The point, or place, to which the way, or road, leads: see ذَنَابَةٌ . And in like manner, وَجْهُ أَمْرٍ and جِهَتُهُ The end, or result, of an affair, to which it leads, or tends. رَمَوْا وَجْهًا وَاحِدًا [They shot in one direction]. (M voce رِشْقٌ .) وَجْهُ الضُّحَى The first, or beginning, of the ضُحَى . (TA voce رَوْنَقٌ , q. v.) وَجْهٌ A chief of a people or party.
