He returned from evil to good, or from good to evil; he repented and returned to the truth. تهوّد is used in the same way, and means he repented and did righteously.

Qur'ān 7:155. So according to Mujáhid, Sa'eed Ibn-Jubeyr and Ibráheem.

It is made transitive by means of الى, because it implies the meaning of رَجَعْنَا.

To the Jews We prohibited such things as We have mentioned to thee before: We did them no wrong, but they were used to doing wrong to themselves.

62:6
قُلْ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوٓا۟ إِن زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Say: "O ye that stand on Judaism! If ye think that ye are friends to Allah, to the exclusion of (other) men, then express your desire for Death, if ye are truthful!"

. The manner is like that termed دَبِيبٌ, from الهَوَادَةُ.

A tradition says: أَسْرِعُوا المَشْىَ فِى الجَنَازَةِ وَلَا تُهَوِّدُوا كَمَا تُهَوِّدُ اليَهُودُ والنَّصَارَى [Make your pace quick at a funeral, and do not go in a gentle, leisurely manner as the Jews and the Christians go].

He made peace with him; he reconciled himself with him. The maṣdar is synonymous with مُوَادَعَةٌ; in the K it is given as مُوَاعَدَةٌ, which is a mistake. Also مُصَالَحَةٌ and مُهَادَنَةٌ, and مُرَاجَعَةٌ [apparently meaning the taking a person back into one's favour].

3.1.1they two inclined each towards the other—هَاوَدَا

He inclined towards him reciprocally; synonym مَايَلَهُ.

Synonym مَايَلَا; the maṣdar is synonymous with مُمَايَلَةٌ.

Some say يَهُودُ was originally يَهُوذُ, arabicized by changing ذ into د, but ISd disapproves of this. Others say it is from هَادَ, "he repented".

It is imperfectly declinable, because it is a proper name of the measure of a verb; and [being of the feminine gender, as is said in the S and L,] because it means a قَبِيلَة.

It is allowable to prefix the article ال and to say اليَهُودُ, but only on the ground that, with the article prefixed, it stands for اليَهُودِيُّونَ, since it is of itself determinate.

يَهُودُ is [as it were] the plural of يَهُودِىٌّ, which is the relative noun of يهود, or, according to Sgh, of يَهُودَا [or Judah], which he writes with the unpointed د in this instance, the son of يَعْقُوب [or Jacob].

يَهُودُ sometimes has يَهْدَانٌ as a plural; this plural occurs in a poem of Hassán.

Fr says of هُودًا in the Qur'ān 2:105 that it stands for يَهُودًا [apparently a mistake for يَهُودَ], or that it may be the plural of هَائِدٌ.
