[A sandal: a sole:] the thing by which the foot is protected from the ground; synonym حِذَآءٌ.

Also applied to a تَاسُومَة [or shoe]; what is now called تَاسُومَة.

[A sandal: a sole:] the thing by which the foot is preserved, or protected, from the ground; (K;) syn. حِذَآءٌ : and also applied to a تَاسُومَة [or shoe]. (Msb.) What is now called تَاسُومَة . (IAth, TA.) It often signifies only a sole: so in the S, K, Msb, &c., in art. خصف &c.
