Core sense — he advised him sincerely; he sewed a garment; the camels drank their fillgenerated

Of the two modes of expression, the first is the original one and the more correct; the second was scarcely ever used by the Arabs. (Lb)

Lb: he directed him to what was for his good, by words, which is the proper meaning; or otherwise, which is a figurative meaning.

Or he gave him good advice, directing him to what was good; or he advised him earnestly; or he acted sincerely and honestly towards him, and was benevolent to him, desiring what was good for him.

maṣdar نُصْحٌ, نَصَاحَةٌ, and نَصِيحَةٌ, though this last may be a simple noun; also نِصَاحَةٌ, نَصْحٌ, نُصُوحٌ, نَصَاحِيَةٌ, and ناصحهُ.

7:79
فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّى وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ

So Salih left them, saying: "O my people! I did indeed convey to you the message for which I was sent by my Lord: I gave you good counsel, but ye love not good counsellors!"

7:93
فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّى وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ ءَاسَىٰ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ كَـٰفِرِينَ

So Shu'aib left them, saying: "O my people! I did indeed convey to you the messages for which I was sent by my Lord: I gave you good counsel, but how shall I lament over a people who refuse to believe!"

9:91
لَّيْسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَآءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْمَرْضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۚ مَا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ مِن سَبِيلٍ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

There is no blame on those who are infirm, or ill, or who find no resources to spend (on the cause), if they are sincere (in duty) to Allah and His Messenger: no ground (of complaint) can there be against such as do right: and Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

11:34
وَلَا يَنفَعُكُمْ نُصْحِىٓ إِنْ أَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَنصَحَ لَكُمْ إِن كَانَ ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يُغْوِيَكُمْ ۚ هُوَ رَبُّكُمْ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

"Of no profit will be my counsel to you, much as I desire to give you (good) counsel, if it be that Allah willeth to leave you astray: He is your Lord! and to Him will ye return!"

He was excessive in giving نُصْح, that is, sincere or faithful advice.

8.1accept the sincere or faithful advice of the Book of God—إِنْتَصِحٌ كِتَابَ ٱللّٰهِ

He accepted نَصِيحَة or نُصْح, that is, sincere, honest, or faithful advice.

As an example of this meaning the following is cited: [He says, Accept my sincere advice, for I am a sincere adviser to you]

يَقُولُ ٱنْتَصِحْنِى إِنَّنِى لَكَ نَاصِحٌ

But IB says that the verb in this sense is intransitive, and that when transitive it means he took a person as a نَصِيح, a sincere or faithful adviser.

I do not desire sincere advice from you, nor your taking me as a sincere adviser—لَا أُرِيدُ مِنْكَ نُصْحًا وَلَا ٱنْتِصَاحا

That is, لَا أُرِيدُ مِنْكَ أَنْ تَنْصَحَنِى وَلَا أَنْ تَتَّخذَنِى نَصِيحًا.

As an ex. of this signification the following is cited 1 [He says, Accept my sincere advice, for I am to thee a sincere adviser]: (TA:) and إِنْتَصِحٌ كِتَابَ ٱللّٰهِ Accept the sincere or faithful advice or counsel of the Book of God. ربح here means, according to some, a young camel of the kind called رُبَعٌ, or a lamb or kid; or the bird called in Persian زاغ. [But see what follows.]

El-Muärrij: also snares, or cords, with loops made to them, which are set, and with which apes are caught, one of these animals being tied to one of the cords to attract others.

Some explain the verse of El-Aasha quoted above in accordance with this meaning; رُبَحٌ, originally رُبَاحٌ, means apes.

As cites as an ex this verse of El-Aasha, 1 (S, &c.) ربح here signifies, accord. to some, a young camel such as is called رُبَعٌ : (Az;) or a lamb, or kid: (ISd:) or the bird called in Persian زاغ . The people of El-Medeeneh read, in the Qur'ān 66:8, نَصُوحًا, but some read نُصُوحًا, which is a maṣdar.

12:11
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لَا تَأْمَ۫نَّا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَنَـٰصِحُونَ

They said: "O our father! why dost thou not trust us with Joseph,- seeing we are indeed his sincere well-wishers?

28:12
وَحَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِ ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ مِن قَبْلُ فَقَالَتْ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ لَكُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُۥ نَـٰصِحُونَ

And we ordained that he refused suck at first, until (His sister came up and) said: "Shall I point out to you the people of a house that will nourish and bring him up for you and be sincerely attached to him?"...
