muḍāriʿـِيَفْعِلُنَصِبَmaṣdarنَصْتٌ إِنْصَاتٌ

Er-Rāghib: he was silent and listened, or he was silent in order to listen, or he was silent as one listening.

When the Qur'an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy.

46:29

وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَآ إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنصِتُوا۟ ۖ فَلَمَّا قُضِىَ وَلَّوْا۟ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns (quietly) listening to the Qur'an: when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" When the (reading) was finished, they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).
