Form 1نَشَرَ16 senses · 4 main
muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـِيَفْعِلُmaṣdarنَشْرٌ نُشُورٌ

Core sense — he spread it out, unfolded it; he scattered it; he raised the dead to lifegenerated

1.1he spread it out, expanded it, or unfolded itنشّر

He spread out, expanded, or unfolded a garment or piece of cloth or the like, goods, and a writing; the opposite of طَوَى..

Its maṣdar is تَنْشِيرٌ. This form has teshdeed to show muchness, frequency, or repetition of the action, or its application to many objects, as the explanation of its ism fāʿil, given below, shows.

Hence لَفٌّ وَنَشْرٌ: see the article لف.

1.1.1figurative · مجازhe pricked up his ears at that thingنَشَرَ لِذٰلِكَ الأَمْرِ أُذُنَيْهِ

He spread out, or, as we say, pricked up, his ears; and hence this saying.

Literally, he spread out his ears at that thing: meaning he was covetous of that thing, or eager for it.

See نَاشِرٌ below.

1.1.2figurative · مجازhe spread, or published, the newsنَشَرَ الخَبَرَ

1.1.3he scattered, or dispersed, people, sheep or goats, and camelsنَشَرَ

and also نشّر, or this last has teshdeed for the purpose mentioned above.

1.1.4

He sprinkled water.

1.1.5the wind blew in a misty or cloudy dayنَشَرَتِ الرِّيحُ

[So as to disperse the mist or clouds.]

1.1.6figurative · مجازhe charmed away from him sickness, and possession, or madnessنَشَرَ عَنْهُ

This is done by a نُشْرَة, that is, a charm, or an amulet, as though he dispersed the malady from him.

El-Kilábee says: فَإِذَا نُشِرَ المَسْفُوعُ كَانَ كَأَنَّمَا أُنْشِطَ مِنْ عِقَالٍ [And when he who is smitten by the evil eye is charmed by a نُشْرَة, he is as though he were loosed from a bond]: that is, the effect of the eye leaves him quickly.

.

he charmed away from him sickness, and possession, or madnessنشّر عَنْهُ

Maṣdar تَنْشِيرٌ.

he charmed him in the same wayنشّرهُ
he wrote a charm for himنشّرهُ

That is, he wrote for him a نُشْرَة.

In two copies of the S I find نُشِرَ as above, but in the TA, نُشِّرَ.

he charmed away the effect of enchantment from himنَشَّرَهُ بِقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

[By the words “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of men,” the opening of the last chapter of the Qur'ān.]

1.2figurative · مجازHe raised the dead to life, quickened them, revived themنَشَرَ

Said of God. This is El-Hasan's reading., or أَنْشَرَ according to I'Ab, or both.

I'Ab reads, in the Qur'ān 2:261, كَيْفَ نُنْشِرُهَا [How we will raise them to life], and argues for this from the words in the Qur'ān 80:22, ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنْشَرَهُ [Then, when He pleases, He raises him to life].

El-Hasan reads نَنْشُرُهَا, and others read نُنْشِزُهَا, with záy.

But Fr says that El-Hasan takes it to refer to unfolding and folding, and that the proper way is to use انشر in this sense transitively, and نَشَرَ intransitively.

See also طَوَىَ, which has the opposite meaning.

O ye who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses,- until leave is given you,- for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

62:10
فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةُ فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

1.3figurative · مجازand the angels, or the winds, that scatter the rainوَٱلنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرًا
wind that spreads the clouds, or scatters the rainرِيحٌ نَشُورٌ

In the Qur'ān 77:3. Or: the winds that bring rain.

Its plural is رِيَاحٌ نُشُرٌ. نَشُورٌ is synonymous with نَاشِرٌ, or it means in a scattered state.

He sends the windsيُرْسِلُ الرِّيَاحَ نُشُرًا بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَحْمَتِهِ

In the same verse the readings نُشْرًا, نَشْرًا and نَشَرًا also occur.

نُشُرًا is the plural of نَشُورٌ in the sense of نَاشِرٌ; or the meaning is, in a state of dispersion before the rain; and نُشْرًا is a contraction.

The third reading means quickening, or giving life, by spreading the clouds in which is the rain, the life of everything; نَشْرًا is a maṣdar used as a denotative of state, in the sense of نَاشِرَاتٍ, or as an absolute objective complement of يرسل, since إِرْسَالٌ and نَشْرٌ are nearly alike.

The fourth reading is irregular, and is said to mean مُنْشِرَةً نَشَرًا, which comes to virtually the same as the third.

Another reading is بُشُرًا, plural of بَشِيرَةٌ or of بَشُورٌ, mentioned in the article بشر; or نُشْرًا, a contraction of بُشُرًا, plural of بَشِيرٌ.
