Core sense — a youth past the age of childhood; clouds not fully gathered togethergenerated

1

A young person past the age of puberty: or a boy or girl past the age of childhood: or a comely young man: or a youth who has reached the stature of a man.

A girl, as well as a boy, is called thus; and they also say جَارِيَةٌ نَاشِئَةٌ.

Plurals نَشْءٌ and نَشَأٌ — or rather these two are ism jamʿ, or, as Aboo-Moosa says, the first is a maṣdar used as an adjective — and نَاشِئُونَ and نَواشِئُ, or the last is a plural of ناشئ as applied to a girl.

Lth says that نَشْءٌ means young people, or youths, and is used in the singular also: هُوَ نَشْءُ سَوْءٍ, he is a bad youth. He says he had never heard ناشئ used as an adjective for a girl.

Fr says that the ء of the plural نَشْءٌ is sometimes dropped, so that one says, in the nominative, نَشُو صدْقٍ [excellent youths]; accusative, نَشَا صدق; genitive, نَشِى صدق.

1.1clouds not completely collected togetherنَاشِئٌ

The expression نَشَأَ الصَّبِىُّ is said to be derived from this, and is therefore figurative.

1.2whatever happens in the nightنَاشِئٌ

And perhaps whatever appears in the night.

Plural نَاشِئَةٌ, a strange plural form for a word of the measure قَاعِلٌ; or نَاشِئَةٌ (Qur 73:6) is a maṣdar in the sense of قِيَامٌ.

AM says that ناشئةُ اللَّيْلِ means قيام الليل, the rising in the night; or that ناشئة means the first part of the night, and of the day; or the first of the hours of the night; or a pious act of the night, that is, performed in the night; or every hour of the night in which one rises; or every hour of the night; or a rising after a sleeping in the first part of the night, as also نَشِيْئَةٌ.
