In law, نَسْخ, abrogation, may concern the wording and the force of a command, or only one of these; whether the command was performed, as is usually the case, or was not performed, as in the case of the sacrifice of Ishmael [or, as some of the Muslims say, in agreement with the Bible narrative, Isaac], for Abraham was commanded to sacrifice him, and then the command was abrogated before it was carried out.
