High, or elevated, land or country. Or: hard, rugged, and elevated table-land.
Only stony and rugged, or hard, elevated land, like a mountain, standing over against a person and cutting off his view of what is behind it, but not very high, is called this.
Plural أَنْجُدٌ, a plural of paucity, and أَنْجَادٌ [also a plural of paucity,] and نِجَادٌ and نُجُودٌ and نُجُدٌ; and plural of نُجُودٌ: أَنْجِدَةٌ [another plural of paucity;] or this is a mistake, and it is the plural of نِجَادٌ, as أَحْمِرَةٌ is the plural of حِمَارٌ; or it is a plural deviating from the common rule.
this high land—هَاذَاكَ النِّجَادَ
Here the word is made singular.
1.1[the high land, or country;] a division of the country of the Arabs—نَجْدٌ
Or: the high country from Batn-er-Rummeh to the mountain-roads of Dhát-'Irk. Or: the country from El-'Odheyb to Dhát-'Irk, and to El-Yemámeh, and to El-Yemen, and to the two mountains of Teiyi, and from El-Mirbed to Wejreh.
Dhát-'Irk is the beginning of Tihámeh, which extends to the sea and Juddeh. El-Medeeneh belongs neither to Tihámeh nor to Nejd, but to El-Hijáz, higher than El-Ghowr, or El-Ghór, and lower than Nejd.
Also نَجُدٌ, of the dialect of Hudheyl, of the masculine gender.
Opposed to الغَوْرُ [or the low country], that is, Tihámeh.
It is all the high land from Tihámeh to the land of El-'Irák; above it are Tihámeh and El-Yemen, and below it El-'Irák and Esh-Shám. It begins, towards El-Hijáz, at Dhát-'Irk, and ends at the Sawád of El-'Irák, and so it is said to form no part of El-Hijáz.
El-Báhilee: or it comprises all that lies beyond the moat, or fosse, which Kisrà made to the Sawád of El-'Irák, until one turns towards the Harrah, when he is in El-Hijáz.
El-Báhilee: and it extends to the east of El-Ghowr, or El-Ghór, which is all the tract whose torrents flow westwards. Tihámeh extends from Dhát-'Irk to a distance of two days' journey beyond Mekkeh; the tract beyond this, westward, is Ghowr, or Ghór; and beyond this, southwards, is Es-Saráh, as far as the frontiers of El-Yemen.
Or, as the Arabs of the desert have been heard to say, it is the country one enters when, journeying upwards, he leaves behind him 'Ijliz, which is above El-Karyateyn, and which he quits when he comes down from the mountain-roads of Dhát-'Irk, where he enters Tihámeh, and when he meets with the stony tracts called حِرَار in Nejd, where El-Hijáz begins.
1.2an elevated road; an elevated and conspicuous road—نَجْدٌ
Also a road in a mountain.
[Hence طَلَّاعُ الأَنْجُدِ, explained below, and in the article طلع.]

Ḳur. 90:10. Beyd: the way of good and the way of evil. Or: the two conspicuous ways.
1.4a woman's breast—نَجْدٌ

The belly beneath it is like the [country called] غَوْر.
1.5now, by her two breasts, did you not do that?—أَمَا وَنَجْدَيْهَا مَا فَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ
A form of oath used by the Arabs.
1.6a thing, or an affair, apparent, plain, or evident—نَجْدٌ

Also طلّاع أَنْجِدَةٍ and طلّاع نِجَادٍ and الأَنْجُدِ and النِجَادِ.
Or: he is one who manages affairs thoroughly and masters them. Or: a man expert in affairs, who surmounts and masters them by his knowledge, his experience, and his excellent judgment. Or: one who aims at lofty things.
Or: one who rises to eminences, or to lofty things or circumstances, or to the means of attaining them; also طَلَّاعُ الثَّنَايَا.
See نَجِدٌ and مُنَاجِدٌ.
2an article of the furnishings with which a house or tent is decorated—نَجْدٌ
A 'Obeyd: singular of نُجُودٌ; and also of نِجَادٌ.
These are the articles of household furniture and the like with which a house or tent is decorated. A 'Obeyd: the carpets and beds or other things that are spread, and the pillows, used for that purpose; the cloths or stuffs used for this, which are hung upon the walls and spread out; the curtains hung upon the walls.
