maṣdarلَيْتٌmuḍāriʿيَلُوتُ يَلِيتُهُ يَلِيتُ

Core sense — he told something different from what he was asked aboutgenerated

1.1

He told, narrated, or gave an account of, a thing different from that about which he was asked..

But according to some, the muḍāriʿ is يَلِيتُ, and the verb belongs to the article ليت.

It was said to El-Asadeeyeh, “What is المُدَاحَلَةُ?” and she answered أَنْ يَلِيتَ الإِنْسَانُ شَيْئًا قَدْ عَلِمَهُ, that is, “concealing a thing that one knows, and telling something different from it.”

1.1.1he concealed the news, and related something different from itلَاتَ الخَبَرَ

[But see above.]

.

1.1.2he told the man a thing in a way different from the real state of the caseلَاتَ الرَّجُلَ

.

Or: he expressed the news to him obscurely, or in a puzzling way, or he obscured it to him, or concealed it from him, telling him something different from what he was asked about.

According to As., لَاتَهُ [not يَلُوتُهُ], means “he expressed the news to him obscurely, or in a puzzling way, or he obscured it to him, or concealed it from him”: so he makes it belong to the article ليت, and the same is said in the L. See also above.

1.1.3he withheld him, or restrained him, and turned him away from his course or purposeلَاتَهُ

.

he withheld him, or restrained him, and turned him away from his course or purposeلَاتَهُ

.

See the article ليت.
