Said of a pilgrim in the state of إِحْرَام. A ‘Obeyd: he put on gum, or خِطْمِىّ, or the like, or honey.

The purpose was to keep his hair in the state it was in, so that it would not become shaggy or dishevelled, dusty or lousy, during the state of احرام.

The first and second of these words, according to different readings, have this meaning in the Qur'ān 72:19.

Or لِبَدٌ means gathered together like locusts, which are apparently so called as being likened to a crowd of men; it is the plural of لِبْدَةٌ, which means a locust.

El-Baṣāʾir: لُبَّدٌ seems to be the plural of لَابِدٌ; so is لُبُدٌ, and so is لُبْدٌ.

Also مال لِبَدٌ, which is according to the reading of Zeyd Ibn-ʿAlee and Ibn-ʿOmeyr and ʿĀṣim, means collected wealth, لِبَدٌ being the plural of لِبْدَةٌ.
