muḍāriʿـِيَفْعِلُmaṣdarكَشْطٌ كِشَاطٌ
Core sense — he removed, took off, or stripped off, a covering from somethinggenerated
1.1figurative · مجازAnd when the heaven shall be removed from its place, as a roof is removed from its place—وَإِذَا السَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ
He removed, took off, or stripped off, a thing from something it covered: for instance, the housing, or covering, from a horse, or from the back of a horse; the cover from a thing; and the skin from a slaughtered camel.; construed with عَنْ.
Yaakoob: قَشَطَ is a dialectal variant of it, the former belonging to the dialect of Kureysh, or of Keys, and the latter to the dialect of Temeem and Asad, the ك not being a substitute for the ق. And استكشط means the same.
So too قُشِطَتٌ, according to the reading of 'Abd-Allah [Ibn-Mes'ood]: or it means it shall be pulled off and folded together.
he removed the letter from its place—كَشَطَ الحَرْفَ
his fright, or fear, became removed—كُشِطَ رَوْعُهُ
. And انكشط روعه means the same, or it means his fright, or fear, went away.
[He removed the housing, or covering, from the beast of carriage]—كَشَطَ الدَّابَّهَ
Also قَشَطَهَا.
I skinned the camel—كَشَطْتُ البَعِيرَ
Muḍāriʿ and maṣdar as above. Do not say سَلَخْتُ; speaking of a camel, the Arabs say only كَشَطْتُهُ and جَلَّدْتُهُ.
