Said of water. The opposite of صَفَا: it ceased to be clear.

Or كُدْرَةٌ relates to colour specially, and كُدُورَةٌ to water and to life — العَيْش in the K, العَيْن, but this is a mistake — while كَدَرٌ applies to all of these.

One of three species; the other two are called جُونِىٌّ and غَطَاطٌ.

The species called كدرى are of a dusty, or dusky, colour, short in the legs, speckled or marked with duskiness and blackness in the backs and bellies, black in the inside of the wing, yellow in the throats, and have in the tail two feathers longer than the rest of the tail.

In the L and TA ريشان, but the right reading is رِيشَتَانِ.

It is smaller than the جونى and has a clear cry, calling out its own name [ قَطَا قَطَا ].

It seems to be named كدرى in relation to the greater number of birds of the kind called قَطًا, which are كُدْر in colour.

كدرى is, as some assert, a relative noun from طَيْرٌ كُدْرٌ, like دُبْسِىٌّ from طَيْرٌ دُبْسٌ.

The ism waḥda is كُدْرِيَّةٌ and كُدَارِيَّةٌ.
