He drew near to, or approached, him or it: also اكثب لَهُ, مِنْهُ, إِلَيْهِ, كَثَبَهُ, and كاثبهُ.

the game has come within your reach [so shoot at it]—أَكْثَبَكَ الصَّيْدُ قَٱرْمِهِ

Or: it has put its كَاثِبَة within your power, or reach; or it has drawn near to you and enabled you to take advantage of it.

In some copies of the K, كَثَبَكَ is read in place of اكثبك, but the latter is the right reading, though the two verbs are synonyms.

The phrase is a proverb.

73:14

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا

One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down.

Nounكَاثِبَةٌ1 sense

1[They put their spears upon the withers of their horses]—يَضَعُونَ رِمَاحَهُمْ عَلَى كَوَاثِبِ خَيْلِهِمْ

The مِنْسَج of a horse (or the part below the حَارِك, which is the withers, or the upper part of them); or the fore part of the منسج of a horse, where the horseman's hand falls [when he mounts]; or the raised part of the منسج; or the part from the root of the neck to the part between the shoulders; or the place where the shoulders join, in front of the saddle [that is, the withers].

Plural كَوَاثِبُ and أَكْثَابٌ, though of the latter plural ISd remarks that he does not know how it comes about.
