Form 1فَارَ13 senses · 3 main
maṣdarفَوْرٌ فَوَرَانٌ فُوَارٌmuḍāriʿيَفُورُ تَفُورُ

Core sense — it boiled; it welled forth from the ground; his anger boiledgenerated

1.1it boiledفَارَتْ

said of water, said of a قِدْر [or cooking-pot].

— the latter is the more common — and فُؤُورٌ and فُوَارٌ.

1.1.1it fermentedفار

Said of a liquor. See نَبِيذٌ.

1.1.2

Said of blood, and of wine: it flushed, or mantled, in the cheeks or head.

The same in meaning as ثارت; mentioned in the article on ثور.

1.1.4his anger boiled; he became angryفار فَائِرُهُ

The same as ثار ثَائِرُهُ.

1.1.5

The same phrase is explained in the M, according to the transcript in the TT, as meaning اِنْتَشَرَ غَضَبُهُ, but I think the right reading is clearly عَصَبُهُ, and the meaning: his sinews became swollen; said of a horse or the like. See art. نشر, and see also فَائِرٌ below.

1.1.6the vein became excited, or in a state of commotion, and flowed forth with bloodفار العِرْقُ

.

To this is added in the K وَضَرَبَ, but this is a mistake, caused by a false reading of the next words in the M, which are وَضَرْبٌ فَوَّارٌ رَغِيبٌ وَاسِعٌ. See فَوَّارٌ.

1.1.7the vein's having inflations, or knots, apparent in itفَوْرُ العِرْقِ

11:40

At length, behold! there came Our command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein, of each kind two, male and female, and your family - except those against whom the word has already gone forth,- and the Believers." but only a few believed with him.

23:27

So We inspired him (with this message): "Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance: then when comes Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take thou on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood).

67:7
إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ

When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth,

Zj says that this is the meaning of مِنْ فَوْرِهِمْ in the Kur 3:121; or قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسْكُنُوا [before their stopping, or ceasing from motion]; or مِنْ فَوْرِهِمْ in the same place means at the beginning of their procedure, or at their instant of time — that is, immediately.

Core sense — boiling much; welling forth abundantly, gushinggenerated

1

An intensive adjective from فَارَ, meaning boiling much, and the like.

1.1

Also, of water and the like: welling forth abundantly, gushing.

1.2a smiting that inflicts a wide wound, so that the blood flows abundantlyضَرْبٌ فَوَّارٌ

A poet says:

shāhid
بِضَرْبٍ يُخَفِّتُ فَوَّارُهُوَطَعْنٍ تَرَى الدَّمَ مِنْهُ رَشِيشًاإِذَا قَتَلُوا مِنْكُمُ فَارِسًاضَمِنَّا لَهُ بَعْدَهُ أَنْ يَعِيشَا

In the text of the M as given in the TT, يُرى الدم stands for تَرَى الدَّمَ, and او يعيشا for أَنْ يَعِيشَا; the right reading of the first hemistich seems to be بِضَرْبٍ تُخَفِّتُ فَوَّارَةٍ, since a maṣdar is sometimes made feminine — see an instance of ضَرْب as feminine in the EM, page 157.

The poet means: with a smiting that silences, or kills, inflicting a wide and gushing wound; and a piercing with the spear after which you see the blood sprinkled: when they kill a horseman of yours, we are answerable for him afterwards, that he shall live — that is, as the M says, his blood shall be avenged, so that he will be as though he had not been killed.

It is also said there that by يخفّت فوّاره is meant لنها واسعة فدمها يسيل ولا صوت له, in which the two feminine pronouns and the feminine adjective all relate to the word ضَرْب, in agreement with what I take to be the right reading of the first hemistich.

Show Lane's original text
[an intensive epithet from فَارَ ; signifying Boiling much; &c.: and Water, &c., welling forth abundantly; gushing]. [Hence,] ضَرْبٌ فَوَّارٌ A smiting [that inflicts a wound] such as is wide, (IAar, M, TA,) so that the blood flows [abundantly]: (M:) a poet says, 1 (IAar, M, TA. Core sense — a source, or spring, of water; an aperture in the haunchgenerated

1a source, or spring, of waterفُوَّارَةٌ

This latter word seems to be the right one in this case.

IAar says that فُوَّارَةٌ is applied to a wave, and to a بِرْكَة [a watering-trough, or the like; or a basin, pool, or pond], and فَوَّارَةٌ to anything that is not water.

In one place he says that دَوَّارَةٌ and فَوَّارَةٌ are applied to anything that neither moves nor turns round, and دُوَّارَةٌ and فُوَّارَةٌ to what moves and turns round.

1.1the hole, or perforating aperture, of the ورك [or haunch]فَوَّارَةُ الوَرِكِ

This word is with fet-h and teshdeed.

Or the فَوَّارَة, or فُوَّارَة, is an aperture in the وَرِك [or haunch] leading to the belly, or interior of the body, not obstructed by bone. Both of these explanations plainly apply to the sacro-ischiatic foramen.

Or the فَوَّارَتَانِ, or فُوَّارَتَانِ, are two parts in the region of the pelvis described as being سِكَّتَانِ — a word which I do not find to have any proper meaning fitting here, but which seems to be applied in this case, by a kind of loose usage, to two parts through which a weapon or the like may pass — between the haunch-bones or hip-bones and the قُحْقُح [or ischium], towards the side of the وَرِك [or hip-bone], not standing as obstacles in the way to the interior of the body; and they are the parts that come into commotion in the act of walking. See also الفَائِلُ in art. فيل.

According to Lth, the term فَوَّارَتَانِ, or فُوَّارَتَانِ in another copy of the T, is applied to two parts belonging to the كَرِش [or stomach, properly of a ruminant animal], having within them two small knotty lumps, which are not eaten, each of which is a piece of flesh in the midst of red flesh.

(T, TA.) فَوَّارَةُ الوَرِكِ , with fet-h and teshdeed, signifies The hole, or perforating aperture, of the ورك [or haunch]: (S, O:) or the فَوَّارَة , (K,) or فُوَّارَة , (so in a copy of the M,) is an aperture in the وَرِك [or haunch], to the belly, or interior of the body, not obstructed by bone: (M, K:) [these two explanations plainly apply to the sacroischiatic foramen: but what here follows is consistent with what precedes, though somewhat less clear:] or the فَوَّارَتَانِ , (K,) or فُوَّارَتَانِ , (accord. to a copy of the M,) are [two parts, in the region of the pelvis, described as being] سِكَّتَانِ [a word which I do not find to have any proper meaning that would be here apposite, but which seems to be applied in this case, by a kind of catachresis, to two parts through which a weapon or the like may pass,] between [each of] the haunch-bones or hip-bones ( بَيْنَ الوَرِكَيْنِ ) and the قُحْقُح [or ischium], towards the side of the وَرِك [or hip-bone], (M, K,) not intervening as obstacles in the way to the belly, or interior of the body; and they are what become in a state of commotion in the act of walking, or going along. (M.) [See also الفَائِلُ , in art. فيل ] And accord. to Lth, the term فَوَّارَتَانِ , (O, and so in a copy of the T,) or فُوَّارَتَانِ , (so in another copy of the T,) is applied to Two appertenances of the كَرِش [or stomach, properly of a ruminant animal], having within them two small nodous lumps ( غُدَّتَانِ ), which latter are not eaten, and each of which is a piece of flesh in the midst of red flesh. (T, O.)
