Said of a thing: it was, or became, empty, vacant, void, or unoccupied; synonym خَلَا.

the thing was, or became, vacant, or unoccupied, for youفَرَغَ لَكَ الشَّىْءُ

we will make you our objectلَكُمْ سَنَفْرُغُ

In the Qur'ān 55:31. IAar explains it as سَنَعْمِدُ, which means the same as سَنَقْصِدُ.

Some read سَنَفْرَغُ, some سَنِفْرَغُ, and some سَنِفْرِغُ, saying that Temeem pronounce نِعْلِمُ; and some سَنَفْرَغُ إِلَيْكُمْ, meaning سَنَقْصِدُ إِلَيْكُمْ.

Or سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ means: we will apply ourselves exclusively to the reckoning with you and the requiting of you. It is said to be a threat, a figurative phrase taken from a man's saying to one whom he threatens, سَأَفْرُغُ لَكَ, meaning I will apply myself exclusively to making an assault upon you.

One says also, in threatening, لَأَفْرُغَنَّ لَكَ, with the same force.

Derived nouns 14

Nounفَرْغٌ6 senses · 1 main

Core sense — width; the outlet of a leathern bucket; two Mansions of the Moongenerated

1

Width, breadth, or ampleness.

1.1

And the place from which the water pours forth, between the cross-pieces of wood of the leathern bucket; and فِرَاغٌ means the same.

Explained elsewhere as the side of the leathern bucket from which the water pours forth.

Plural of the first, فُرُوغٌ and مَفَارِغُ, the latter being irregular, like مَشَابِهُ and مَحَاسِنُ; or it is the plural of مَفْرَغٌ.

1.2

Hence الفَرْغَانِ, فَرْغُ الدَّلْوِ المُقَدَّمُ, and فَرْغُ الدَّلْوِ المُؤَخَّرُ, or الفَرْغُ الأَوَّلُ and الفَرْغُ الثَّانِى: two of the Mansions of the Moon, the twenty-sixth and the twenty-seventh.

Four stars, wide apart, forming the corners of a square; each pair consisting of two bright stars, the apparent distance between the two being the measure of five cubits, or the measure of a spear. See ذِرَاعٌ and رُمْحٌ.

The first pair consists of the stars a and b of Pegasus; the second, of g in Pegasus together with the bright star in the head of Andromeda, as what follows shows.

The Arabs give the name الدَّلْوُ to the four bright stars in Pegasus that form a square: the one at the end of the neck, called مَتْنُ الفَرَسِ; the one called مَنْكِبُ الفَرَسِ; the one called جَنَاحُ الفَرَسِ; and the star belonging to both Pegasus and Andromeda. So El-Kazwīnī, describing Pegasus.

These two pairs of stars are what are commonly known as the فَرْغَانِ, as the times given for their setting at dawn plainly show; but the times given for their rising at dawn would make the name فرغان apply to some other stars in Aquarius, not easily determined. See نَوْءٌ, and see also مَنَازِلُ القَمَرِ under نزل.

The plural الفُرُوغُ is said to be applied to the فَرْغَانِ together with the stars around them.

According to El-Jumahee, الفُرُوغُ — written wrongly in the CK as الفَرُوغُ — means the constellation called الجَوْزَآءُ. But see فُرُوعُ الجَوْزَآءِ under فرع.

1.3a vessel containing exuded, or expressed, juiceفَرْغٌ

That is, دِبْس and صَقْر.

1.4

Also: land affected with drought, or barrenness.
