Core sense — a she-camel that goes quickly; an arrow shot beyond the usual limitgenerated

1

See the preceding entry.

1.1a she-camel that goes quickly, the feet of her fore legs and of her hind legs falling in one placeنَاقَةٌ مِغْلَاةُ الوَهَقِ

It is explained by تَغْتَلِى, followed by the words إِذَا تَوَاهَقَتْ أَخْفَافُهَا, which I have rendered here according to an explanation given under وهق in the O. But the phrase مغلاة الوهق is mentioned there as an example of الوَهَق in the sense of "the lasso", from which it appears that the phrase literally means one that goes beyond the reach of the lasso; this agrees with Golius's explanation, "rapide currens, et fugiens laqueum sibi injiciendum".

Or the meaning is a she-camel that steps far in vying, or keeping pace, with another: in explaining the phrase مِغْلَاةُ الوَهَقِ, IB says that المِغْلَاةُ, applied to the she-camel, means اَلَّتِى تُبْعِدُ الخَطْوَ, and that الوَهَقُ means المُبَارَاةُ and المُسَايَرَةُ. Mentioned under هِرْجَابٌ.
