[There are three habits] while keeping to which the heart of a believer is not invaded by rancourثَلَاثٌ لَا يَغِلُّ عَلَيْهِنَّ قَلْبُ المُؤْمِنِ

Said in a tradition, a saying of the Prophet, thus related by some. خِصَال is understood: as the O says, the three are acting sincerely towards God, giving honest counsel to those in command, and keeping to the community of the Muslims; and the rancour is such as causes the heart to swerve from what is right.

Others read يُغِلُّ, with damm to the ى, which comes from the meaning explained next.

1.4he acted unfaithfullyغَلَّ

Muḍāriʿ يَغُلُّ; maṣdar غُلُولٌ.

he acted unfaithfully; he became unfaithfulاغلّ
he acted unfaithfully in taking from the spoil, or bootyغَلَّ مِنَ المَغْنَمِ

According to ISk and A'Obeyd this form has a general sense, whereas the preceding verb is used only in relation to spoil, or booty.

That is, خَانَ; or the meaning is that he acted unfaithfully in relation to the spoil, or booty.

he stole; he was unfaithful about a thing secretlyغَلَّ

Muḍāriʿ as above; maṣdar غُلُولٌ or غَلٌّ.

Such conduct is called غُلُولٌ because in that case the hands, or arms, have the غُلّ put upon them.

Or it also means: he took a thing and hid it amid his goods; and it occurs in a tradition meaning he took a شَمْلَة secretly.

[And it is not attributable to a prophet] that he would act unfaithfullyوَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِىٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ

In the Qur'ān 3:155; another reading is يُغَلَّ أَنْ.

that unfaithful conduct should be imputed to him; or that something should be taken from his share of the spoilان يُغَلَّ

IB says that a passive muḍāriʿ is seldom found in the language of the Arabs in a phrase of this kind.

[Agreeably with an explanation of أَغَلَّ فُلَانًا in the K.] Or this may mean that he should be found to be acting unfaithfully; for according to the TA اغلّ الرَّجُلَ means وَجَدَهُ غَالًّا.

There shall be no acting unfaithfully nor stealingلَا إِغْلَالَ وَلَا إِسْلَالَ

Said in a tradition. Or: there shall be no act of bribery nor stealing; or, as some say, no aiding another to act unfaithfully.

No prophet could (ever) be false to his trust. If any person is so false, He shall, on the Day of Judgment, restore what he misappropriated; then shall every soul receive its due,- whatever it earned,- and none shall be dealt with unjustly.

The Jews say: "Allah's hand is tied up." Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for the (blasphemy) they utter. Nay, both His hands are widely outstretched: He giveth and spendeth (of His bounty) as He pleaseth. But the revelation that cometh to thee from Allah increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. Amongst them we have placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Judgment. Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do mischief.

Or غلّل لِحْيَتَهُ.; the teshdeed denotes muchness.

he perfumed himself with غاليةتغلّل بالغالية

اغتلّ and تَغَلْغَلَ are used in the same way.

Lh mentions تَغَلَّى بِالغَالِيَةِ, which is either from the word غَالِيَة or originally تَغَلَّلَ, in the latter case being like تَظَنَّيْتُ for تَظَنَّنْتُ; but the first is more in accord with analogy.

According to Fr, one says تَغَلَّلْتُ بالغالية and not تَغَلَّيْتُ.

As allowed تَغَلَّلْتُ from الغالية if the meaning is that I introduced the غالية into my beard or my mustache; and the same is the case with غَلَّلْتُ بِهَا لِحْيَتِى.

According to Lth, one says, from الغالية, غَلَّلْتُ and غَلَّفْتُ and غَلَّيْتُ.
