AA says it is applied to rain as well.

In the Qur'ān 72:16, said of watering them in order to try them by it; the طريقة here is that of unbelief, according to Th, and likewise Fr, but others say it is that of the right direction.

ʿĀṣim Ibn-Abi-n-Najood read غَدِقًا.

O God, water us very abundantly—مُغْدِقًا اَللّٰهُمَّ ٱسْقِنَا غَدَقًا

From a tradition; the last word is used as a corroborative.

Qur’ānic occurrences غَدَق

72:16

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا

(And Allah's Message is): "If they (the Pagans) had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them Rain in abundance.

[an inf. n.: and used in the sense of the part. n. غَدِقٌ , meaning] Abundant, or copious; applied to water; (S, O, Msb, K, TA;) not restricted to rain; (TA;) as also مُغْدِقٌ and مُغْدَوْدِقٌ , both applied to rain, and the latter [or both] applied to water [in general]; and غَيْدَاقٌ likewise, applied to water, and, as AA says, to rain: or غَدَقٌ is applied to rain as meaning abundant, or copious, [so as to be] general in its extent. (TA.) It is said in the Kur [lxxii. 16], لَوِ ٱسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُمْ مَآءً غَدَقًا [If they should go on undeviatingly in the way which they are pursuing, we would water then with abundant water]; (O, TA;) to try them thereby; the طريقة here being that of infidelity; so says Th, and in like manner Fr; but others say that it is that of the right direction: (TA:) 'Ásim Ibn-Abi-n-Najood read غَدِقًا . (O, TA.) In the saying, in a trad., مُغْدِقًا اَللّٰهُمَّ ٱسْقِنَا غَدَقًا , the last word is used as a corroborative [the meaning being O God, water us very abundantly]. (TA.) See also غَيْدَاقٌ .
