muḍāriʿـِيَفْعِلُ·ـُيَفْعُلُ·ـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarغَدْرٌ غَدَرٌ
Core sense — he acted treacherously to him; he lagged behind; the night became darkgenerated
1.1he acted perfidiously, or treacherously, to him; he broke his compact with him—غَدَرَ بِهِ
and غَدُرَ and غَدِرَ, but ISd doubts the correctness of this last.
of غَدَرَ; and غَدَرٌ (which in the CK stands in place of غَدْر) and غَدَرَانٌ, both of غَدِرَ.
Also: he neglected the fulfilment of his compact with him.
غَدْرٌ is the opposite of وَفَآءٌ, or of وَفَآءٌ بِعَهْدٍ; or it means being remiss in a thing and neglecting it.
1.2he drank the water of the pool left by a torrent—غَدَرَ
. The water meant is that of the غَدِير.
According to the K, غَدِرَ means he drank the water of the sky; but this is a plain mistake, caused by misunderstanding a saying in the T, which follows.
Az says that غَدَرَ, in the sense explained above, should by analogy be غَدِرَ, like كَرِعَ meaning "he drank the كَرَع", that is, the water of the sky.
A distinction is also strangely made in the K between the water of the غَدِير and the water of the sky.
1.3
غَدَرَتْ وَلَدَهَا, said of a woman, is like دَغَرَتْهُ.
1.4he remained, or lagged, behind—غَدِرَ
. Also تغدّر, according to As, who cites this verse of Imra-el-Keys: [In the evening when we passed beyond Hamáh, and our journeying was laborious, we not waiting for such as lagged behind]
shāhidعَشِيَّةَ جَاوَزْنَا حَمَاةَ وَسَيْرُنَاأَخُو الجَهْدِ لَا نَلْوِى عَلَى مِنْ تَغْدَّرَا
But according to one relation it is تَعَذَّرَ, which means the same, or "held back, or withheld himself, for a cause that excused him".
he remained, or lagged, behind his companions—غَدِرَ عَنْ أَصْحَابِهِ
the she-camel lagged behind the other camels, not coming up to them—غَدِرَتِ النَّاقَةُ عَنِ الإِبِلِ
the sheep, or goat, lagged behind the other sheep, or goats—الشَّاةُ عَنِ الغَنَمِ
such a one remained after the death of his brothers—غَدَرَ فُلَانٌ بَعْدَ إِخْوَتِهِ
But غَدَرَ here is apparently a mistake for غَدِرَ, unless both forms are allowable.
1.5the night became dark, or became intensely dark—غَدِرَ اللَّيْلُ
Also غَدِرَتِ اللَّيْلَةُ, maṣdar غَدَرٌ and أَغْدَرَت.
1.6the sheep, or goats, became satiated in the pasture at the first of its growth—غَدِرَتِ الغَنَمُ
.
1.7the land abounded with pools of water left by torrents—غَدِرَتِ الأَرْضُ
That is, with غَدَر.
