O ye who believe! Violate not the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, nor of the sacred month, nor of the animals brought for sacrifice, nor the garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people resorting to the sacred house, seeking of the bounty and good pleasure of their Lord. But when ye are clear of the sacred precincts and of pilgrim garb, ye may hunt and let not the hatred of some people in (once) shutting you out of the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgression (and hostility on your part). Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment.

The change of the weak letter [و into ا] is made in استعان and اعان in imitation of a general rule [which requires it when that change is made in the unaugmented triliteral verb], though عَانَ [as their source of derivation], is not used.
ب [that is, بِ] is called حَرْفُ ٱسْتِعَانَةٍ [a particle denoting the seeking of aid], because when you say ضَرَبْتُ بِالسَّيْفِ and كَتَبْتُ بِالقَلَمِ and بَرَيْتُ بِالمُدْيَةِ it is as though you said اِسْتَعَنْتُ بِهٰذِهِ الأَدَوَاتِ عَلَي هٰذِهِ الأَفْعَالِ [meaning: I sought aid of these instruments, or used them as means, to perform these acts of striking and the like].

مَعُونَةٌ, مَعْوُنَةٌ (with damm to the و, which agrees with analogy; in the CK written مَعْوَنَةٌ), مَعَانَةٌ and مَعُونٌ [about the second and the last of these see what follows] are simple nouns, and mean aid, help, or assistance.
عَوْنٌ is one of those quasi-maṣdars that govern like the maṣdar, that is, like the verb, as in the saying: [When the Creator's aiding of a man is true, he will not find anything difficult among his hopes, but rather made easy]
(I ʿAk, § إِعْمَالُ المَصْدَرِ).
According to AHei it is a maṣdar [having no verb].
مَعُونَةٌ is of the measure مَقْعُلَةٌ from العَوْنُ, or, as some say, of the measure فَعُولَةٌ from المَاعُونُ.
One also says مَعَانَةٌ and عَوْنٌ.
مَعَاوِنُ is the plural of مَعُونَةٌ.
Ks says that مَعُونٌ means the same as مَعُونَةٌ, and that it is the only masculine of the measure مَفْعُلٌ except مَكْرُمٌ; an example of it occurs in a verse of Jemeel cited under أَىُّ.
Fr says that it is a plural of مَعُونَةٌ, and that there is no singular of the measure مَفْعُلٌ. [On this point see مَأْلُكٌ, under أَلُوكٌ.]
Also an aid, meaning an aider, a helper, or an assistant, to perform or accomplish an affair; applied to a single person, and to two, and to a plural number, and to a male, and to a female. And [particularly] a servant, [and an armed attendant, a guard, or an officer of a king, or of a prefect of the police, and the like].
That is, an عَوْن [or armed attendant, or guard].
أَعْوَانٌ is the plural of عَوْنٌ, and عَوِينٌ is an ism jamʿ, said by AA to mean the same as أَعْوَانٌ; Fr says the like.
