Form 1عَلَنَ الأَمْرُ2 senses
muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـِيَفْعِلُ·ـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarعُلُونٌ

Core sense — the affair became open, manifest, or publicgenerated

Muḍāriʿ عَلُنَ and عَلِنَ; also عَلُنَ; and عَلِنَ.

which belongs to the first; and عَلَنٌ (ISk; [apparently, according to the CK, عَلْنٌ, but this is wrong,]) which belongs to the last; and عَلَانِيَةٌ, which belongs to all three; or this last is a simple noun.

The affair, or case, or event, became open, manifest, public, or widely spread; and اعتلن means the same. [And so استعلن, but for this I know of no authority except modern usage; and اعلن has a similar meaning, explained below.]

[The CK has عَلَنْتُهُ where other copies of the K, and the TA, have عَلَّنْتُهُ, as synonymous with أَعْلَنْتُهُ.]

3.1I was open, or I acted openly, with them in the affairعَالَنْتُهُمْ بِالأَمْرِ

These signify the same as مُجَاهَرَةٌ, that is, behaving, or acting, openly with another, or others; and so does إِعْلَانٌ.

The same as جَاهَرْتُهُمْ بِهِ.

he showed open enmity, or hostility, with anotherعَالَنَ بِالعَدَاوَةِ

The same as جَاهَرَ.

3.1.1I laid open to him what was in my mind, he doing the same to meعَالَنْتُ بِهِ

Or: the laying open, by each one to his fellow, of what is in his mind.

That is, each of us laid open to the other what was in his mind.

Or عَالَنْتُهُ.

signify the same, (S, K,) i. e. i. q. مُجَاهَرَةٌ [meaning The behaving, or acting, openly with another, or others]; as also إِعْلَانٌ . (K.) You say, عَالَنْتُهُمْ بِالأَمْرِ i. q. جَاهَرْتُهُمْ بِهِ [i. e. I was open, or I acted openly, with them in the affair, or case]. (JK in art. جهر .) And عَالَنَ بِالعَدَاوَةِ i. q. جَاهَرَ [i. e. 4.1he laid open to him the affair, or case, or eventعَالَنَهُ

I laid it open, revealed it, or made it public — namely, an affair, a case, or an event; and so do اعلنت بِهِ and عَلَّنْتُهُ.

The latter is with teshdeed, the CK having عَلَنْتُهُ; its maṣdar is تَعْلِينٌ and عَالَنْتُهُ.

Or rather عالنهُ الأَمْرَ, which means اعلن إِلَيْهِ الأَمْرَ.

4.1.1she revealed, or confessed, the enormity, or act of adulteryأَعْلَنَتْ

Occurring in a tradition, said of a woman accused of adultery.

4.1.2he made him to become publicly knownاعلن بِهِ

[This is apparently the meaning: see form 10; and see also أَظْهَرْتُ بِفُلَانٍ in the article ظهر.]

4.1.3the affair, or case, or event, became notorious, or commonly knownاعلن الأَمْرُ

Synonymous with اِشْتَهَرَ. [Compare form 1.]

The same as تَعَرَّضَ لِأَنْ يُعْلَنَ بِهِ, apparently meaning he addressed himself to being, or sought to be, made publicly known.

This is what it is said to mean.
