The herb is بَقْل. Each of these is a plural of عَصْفَةٌ. [Or rather عَصْفٌ is a collective noun of which عُصُوفٌ is the plural and عَصْفَةٌ is the ism waḥda.]

the leaves on the stalk of corn that dry up and crumbleعَصْفَةٌ

عَصِيفَةٌ and عُصَافَةٌ have the same meaning; or the word means the leaves of corn, and the parts of it that are not eaten.

In these three different senses it is explained as used in the Qur'ān 55:11.

So called because of the violent blowing of the wind in it; عَاصِفٌ here is an instance of فَاعِلٌ in the sense of مَفْعُولٌ فِيهِ, as one says يَوْمٌ بَارِدٌ, or like لَيْلٌ نَائِمٌ.

This is the meaning in the phrase فِى يَوْمٍ عَاصِفٍ in the Qur'ān 14:21; or that phrase may mean فِى يَوْمٍ عَاصِفِ الرِّيحِ [in a day violent, or vehement, in respect of the wind], because the wind is mentioned in the earlier part of the sentence.
