The maṣdar of the first verb is إِعْتَادٌ; the maṣdar of the second is تَعْتِيدٌ.

The first verb occurs in the Qur'ān 12:31.

Yaakoob says that the ت in أَعْتَدْتُهُ is a substitute for the د in أَعْدَدْتُهُ. Some say that أَعَدَّ is originally أَعْتَدَ, but others deny this.

Or such is only termed عَرِيضٌ, while عتود means one that has become a ثَنِىّ [apparently meaning in the third year]; or that has reached the age fit for procreation.
