Core sense — he packed up goods; he prepared troops for war; he prepared perfumegenerated
1.1[I packed the thing in the repository]—
he packed up goods, or utensils, putting them one on another. The muḍāriʿ here is the same.
Some allow also عَبَّيْتُ, with teshdeed, and ى [which is commonly used in the present day].
[And عَبَوْتُ also] or عَبَأَ, with the muḍāriʿ and the maṣdar as above.
he prepared, set in order, or arranged goods, or utensils—عبّأ
Maṣdar تَعْبِئَةٌ and تَعْبِىْءٌ.
Each of these, or the first, or the last, and also عبّى, with teshdeed, and ى, means: he fitted out with the needed equipment, or prepared and arranged in their places for war, the horsemen, or the army. [Agreeably with the authority of Yoo, for] Yoo used to say تَعْبِيَةُ الجَيْشِ without ء.
I prepared evil, or mischief, for him—عَبَأْتُ لَهُ شَرًّا
1.1.1he prepared and mixed perfume—
he prepared and mixed perfume—عبّأ
The muḍāriʿ and the maṣdar are as above.
[And from an explanation of the maṣdar in the KL, it seems that عَبَأَ means He gave off a good, or pleasant, smell, as Golius renders it; but I think this doubtful.]
1.1.2what shall I do with it?—مَا أَعْبَأُ بِهِ
Said of an affair.
what will my Lord do with you?—مَا يَعْبَأُ بِكُمْ رَبِّى
In the Qur'ān 25, last verse. Mujáhid gives this meaning, but see another explanation of it in what follows.
1.1.3what weight have you in the sight of my Lord?—
I did not reckon him as anything, I did not esteem him at all—مَا عَبَأْتُ بِهِ شَيْئًا
I did not care about him, I paid him no regard—
It also means: I do not care about him, mind him, or pay him any regard. Aboo-'Adnán: I do not accept anything from him, nor anything of what he says. Aboo-Is-hák [i. e. Zj]: I do not hold him to be of any weight or worth; I do not esteem him.
This is Aboo-Is-hák's explanation of the Qur'ānic phrase mentioned above.
Aboo-'Abd-Er-Rahmán.
Or in the form
God has accepted everything from him—قَدْ عَبَأَ ٱللّٰهُ عَنْهُ
Aboo-'Adnán.
1.1.4he thought it, and held it, or took to it, as a tenet—
1.2his face shone—
.
his face shone—عَبَا
given under the article عبو.

(TA.) [And accord. to an explanation of the inf. n. in the KL, it seems that عَبَأَ signifies He excited a good, or pleasant, odour; as rendered by Golius: but this I think doubtful.] مَا أَعْبَأُ بِهِ means What shall I do with it? (T, K, TA,) namely, the affair. (T, TA.) مَا يَعْبَأُ بِكُمْ رَبِّى , in the Kur [xxv. last verse], is said by Mujáhid to mean What will my Lord do with you? but see another explanation of this in what follows. (TA.) And it signifies also I do not care for, mind, heed, or regard, him: (S, O, Msb, K:) or I do not receive with approbation anything from him, nor anything of his discourse: (Aboo-'Adnán, TA:) or, accord. to Aboo-Is-hák [i. e. Zj], I do not hold him to be of any weight or worth; do not esteem him: and he says that مَا يَعْبَأُ بِكُمْ رَبِّى , of which an explanation has been given above, means What weight have ye in the estimation of my Lord? (TA.) One says also, مَا عَبَأْتُ بِهِ شَيْئًا , meaning I did not reckon him as anything; or did not esteem him at all. (Aboo-'Abd-Er-Rahmán, TA.) I did not care for, mind, heed, or regard, him: (T, TA:) or so God has received with approbation everything from him. (Aboo-'Adnán, TA.) And عَبَأَ لَهُ He thought it, or opined it, and held it, or took to it as a tenet. (O, TA.) عَبَأَ وَجْهُهُ , aor. عَبَاَ , His face shone: (IAar, TA:) and so عَبَا , aor. (K in art.
