[The maṣdar of this latter verb seems to be طَمَثٌ, or perhaps طَمْثٌ.]

She menstruated: said of a woman. Accord. to Th this is the primary meaning, and the sense of taking a girl's virginity with causing her to bleed was given to طَمْثٌ later, or, as some say, for the first time.

Accord. to Lh, used specially of a girl, or young woman.

In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-

55:74

لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّ
