muḍāriʿـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarطَعْمٌ طُعْمٌ

Core sense — he ate it; he tasted itgenerated

1.1he tasted [a thing]طَعِمَ

maṣdar طَعْمٌ and طَعَامٌ: he ate it, namely, food.

Muḍāriʿ as above with ḍamm.

he ate a thing; he tasted a thingطَعِمَ

Muḍāriʿ as above with ḍamm, or طَعْمٌ with fet-ḥ, or both, and مَطْعَمٌ is also a maṣdar of the same verb. Apparently it also means he swallowed, for it is said to apply to anything that is swallowed easily or agreeably, even to water.

he tasted food in order to know its flavourتطعّم

استطعم and طَعِمَ, as meaning he tasted, may be used of what is eaten and of what is drunk.

And when you have eaten [disperse yourselves]فَإِذَا طَعِمْتُمْ فَٱنْتَشِرُوا
Such a one, his eating [was, or became, little]فُلَانٌ قَلَّ طُعْمُهُ
But whoever does not taste it, he is of my followersوَمَنْ لَمْ يَطْعَمْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّى

In the Qur'ān 33:53.

In the Qur'ān 2:250. Or the meaning is: he is at one, or in union, with me. Zj: لَمْ يَتَطَعَّمْ بِهِ, apparently meaning he does not refresh himself with it as though with food. Er-Rāghib: some say the passage denotes a prohibition against taking more than is laded out with the hand; and when water has something chewed in it, one says of it يُطْعَمُ.

Taste, then you will have desire, or appetite, and will eatتَطَعَّمْ تَطْعَمْ

When Talut set forth with the armies, he said: "Allah will test you at the stream: if any drinks of its water, He goes not with my army: Only those who taste not of it go with me: A mere sip out of the hand is excused." but they all drank of it, except a few. When they crossed the river,- He and the faithful ones with him,- they said: "This day We cannot cope with Goliath and his forces." but those who were convinced that they must meet Allah, said: "How oft, by Allah's will, Hath a small force vanquished a big one? Allah is with those who steadfastly persevere."

On those who believe and do deeds of righteousness there is no blame for what they ate (in the past), when they guard themselves from evil, and believe, and do deeds of righteousness,- (or) again, guard themselves from evil and believe,- (or) again, guard themselves from evil and do good. For Allah loveth those who do good.

But (even so), if a person is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- thy Lord is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

O ye who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses,- until leave is given you,- for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear.
