maṣdarصَيْرُورَةٌ مَصِيرٌ صَيْرٌmuḍāriʿيَصِيرُ يَصُورُهُ
Core sense — he became such a thing; he came to such a state, or place; he cut itgenerated
1.1Zeyd became a man; he reached the state of a man—صَارَ زَيْدٌ رَجُلًا
He, or it, reached the state, or condition, of such a thing; became such a thing.; maṣdars صَيْرُورَةٌ and صَيْرٌ. In this sense the verb is like كَانَ [in meaning, when the latter is non-attributive, and in having its subject in the nominative case and its predicate in the accusative].
Zeyd became rich, not having been so before—صَارَ زَيْدٌ غَنِيًّا
the expressed juice became wine—صَارَ العَصِيرُ خَمْرًا
he came to be in a state in which he had nothing in his possession—صَارَ لَا شَىْءَ عِنْدَهُ
he set about, or took to, doing such a thing—صَارَ يَفْعَلُ كَذَا
That is, he became occupied, or engaged, in doing such a thing; like جَعَلَ.
he came to be doing nothing; he became unoccupied—صَارَ لَا يَفْعَلُ شَيْئًا
he came to be silent; he became speechless—صَارَ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُ
he began to reflect upon such a thing—صَارَ يَتَفَكَّرُ فِى كَذَا
1.1.1the thing, or affair, or case, came eventually to such a state, or condition—صَارَ الأَمْرُ إِلَى كَذَا
Muḍāriʿ as above, which is irregular, the regular form being مَصَارٌ, like مَعَاشٌ, صَيْرٌ, and صَيْرُورَةٌ.
It is explained as رَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ, but that is a loose explanation; the meaning is that the thing came eventually to such a state or condition.
The difference between مَصِيرٌ and مَرْجِعٌ is that the first necessarily implies that the later state or condition differs from the earlier one, while the second does not.
Here the later state or condition is likened to a place.
Lane cites “Bd in iii. 156” — a commentary, not the verse; no modern number is given
1.1.2he, or it, reached a place—صَارَ
[Zeyd came, or went, or pursued a course that brought him, to ʿAmr]—صَارَ زَيْدٌ إِلَى عَمْرٍو
[I came to such a one]—صِرْتُ إِلَى فُلَانٍ
This is similar to the phrase in the Qur'ān 3:27, وَإِلَى ٱللّٰهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ [And to God, as the final end, is the course of every human being].
[Hence أًلَا إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلْأُمُورُ in the Qur'ān 42, last verse, which Bd explains by adding the words بِٱرْتِفَاعِ الوَسَائِطِ وَالتَّعَلُّقَاتِ, the meaning being that to God are things, or events, referred, mediately and dependently: in the commentary of the Jel explained as meaning تَرْجِعُ.]
1.1.3such a thing came to, or befell, him, or it—صَارَ لَهُ كَذَا
And hence: he, or it, came to have, or became possessed of, such a thing.
1.1.4he found himself in a desert, or waterless, land—صَارَ فِى أَرْضِ فَلَاةٍ
The same as وَقَعَ فِيهَا (under the root وقع).
he entered the season called ربيع—صَارَ فِى الرَّبِيعِ
The same as أَرْبَعَ, which is explained as meaning دَخَلَ فِى الرَّبِيعِ (under the root ربع).
1.2the returning of seekers after herbage to the watering-places—صَيْرٌ
the man stayed, or abode, at the water—صَارَ الرَّجُلُ
.
the people stayed, or abode, at the water—صَارَ النَّاسُ المَآءَ
1.3he cut it; and he clave it, or split it—صَارَهُ
First person صِرْتُهُ; muḍāriʿ as above. A dialectal variant of صَارَهُ, whose muḍāriʿ is يَصُورُهُ.
1.3.1he turned his face towards a person or thing—صَارَ وَجْهَهُ
In the same way — as a dialectal variant of صَارَهُ, whose muḍāriʿ is يَصُورُهُ — it means: he made it incline, or lean.
also يَصُورُ (under the root صور).
I twisted his neck—صِرْتُ عُنُقَهُ
On the phrase فَصِرْهُنَّ إِلَيْكَ in the Qur'ān 2:262, according to one reading, see Form 1 under the root صور.
Qur’ān 2:260 approximate — somewhere between 2:259 and 2:273 Lane cites “Kur ii. 262”
1.3.2he confined, or restricted, him, or it—صَارَهُ
. The same as حَبَسَهُ.

(Bd in iii. 156.) [In this case, the ulterior state or condition is likened to a place: for] صَارَ also signifies He, or it, attained in respect of place: so in the saying, صَارَ زَيْدٌ إِلَى عَمْرٍو [Zeyd came, or went, or pursued a course that brought him, to 'Amr]. (TA.) صِرْتُ إِلَى فُلَانٍ [I came, &c., to such a one] is similar to the phrase in the Kur [iii. 27] وَإِلَى ٱللّٰهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ [And to God, as the ultimate object, is the transition, or course, of every human being]. (S.) [Hence, أًلَا إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلْأُمُورُ , in the Kur xlii. last verse, which Bd explains by adding the words بِٱرْتِفَاعِ الوَسَائِطِ وَالتَّعَلُّقَاتِ ; the meaning being, Verily to God are things, or events, referrible, mediately and dependently: in the Expos. of the Jel expl. as meaning تَرْجِعُ .] [And in like manner one says, صَارَ لَهُ كَذَا Such a thing came to, betided, or befell, him, or it: and hence, he, or it, came to have, or became possessed of, such a thing.] And صَارَ فِى أَرْضِ فَلَاةٍ [He became, or came to be, meaning he found himself, in a desert, or waterless, land]; i. q. وَقَعَ فِيهَا . (Msb in art. وقع .) And صَارَ فِى الرَّبِيعِ [He entered, lit. became in, the season called ربيع ]; i. q. أَرْبَعَ [which is expl. in the S as signifying دَخَلَ فِى الرَّبِيعِ ]. (K in art. ربع .) صَيْرٌ signifies also The returning of seekers after herbage to the watering-places. (O, K.) And one says, صَارَ الرَّجُلُ , aor. يَصِيرُ , [inf. n. صَيْرٌ ,] The man stayed, or abode, at the water. (TA.) And صَارَ النَّاسُ المَآءَ The people stayed, or abode, at the water. (M, K, TA.) صَارَهُ , (S,) first pers. صِرْتُهُ , (M,) aor. as above, (S,) inf. n. صَيْرٌ , (K,) a dial. var. of صَارَهُ having for its aor. يَصُورُهُ , [q. v.,] (S,) He cut it; (S, M, K;) and clave it, or split it. (M.) And in like manner, [i. e. as a dial. var. of صَارَهُ having for its aor. يَصُورُهُ ,] He made it to incline, or lean. (S.) You say, صَارَ وَجْهَهُ , aor. يَصِيرُ , (M,) as also يَصُورُ , (M and K in art. صور ,) He turned his face towards a person or thing. (M.) And صِرْتُ عُنُقَهُ I twisted his neck. (M.) [Respecting the phrase فَصِرْهُنَّ إِلَيْكَ in the Kur ii. 262, accord. to one reading, see 1 in art. صور .] صَارَهُ , aor. يَصِيرُ , inf. n. صَيْرٌ , signifies also حَبَسَهُ [He confined, restricted, &c., him, or it].
