I inclined, or bent, the thing towards meصُرْتُ إِلَىَّ الشَّىْءَ

Said of a man.

El-Ahmar gives أَصَرْتُهُ in the same sense.

In the Qur'ān 2:262. The reading فَصِرْهُنَّ has the same meaning, but the former is the more common reading, and this is the meaning commonly known of each reading. Lh says that the former means as above, while the latter means: cut them, and divide them, in pieces; and some explain the former in that way too, taking the words of the verse as transposed, as though they were فَخُذْ إِلَيْكَ أَرْبَعَةً مِنَ ٱلطَّّيْرِ فَصُرْهُنَّ.

When Abraham said: "Show me, Lord, how You will raise the dead, " He replied: "Have you no faith?" He said "Yes, but just to reassure my heart." Allah said, "Take four birds, draw them to you, and cut their bodies to pieces. Scatter them over the mountain-tops, then call them back. They will come swiftly to you. Know that Allah is Mighty, Wise."

An inclination, or a desire. (TA.) You say, أَرَى لَكَ إِلَيْهِ صَوْرَةً I see thee to have a loving inclination to him. (A.) And مَا بِى إِلَيْهَا صَوْرَةٌ I have not any inclination to, or desire for, her. (TA, from a trad.) Form, fashion, figure, shape, or semblance; synonymous with شَكْلٌ and مِثَالٌ.

The outward state of a thing: what makes a thing sensibly distinguishable, by people in general and even by many other animate beings, from other things — as the صورة of a man, of a horse, and of an ass.

And an effigy; an image, or a statue; a picture; anything formed, fashioned, or shaped after the likeness of any of God's creatures, animate or inanimate.

It is said that the maker of an image will be punished on the day of resurrection and will be commanded to put life into it, and that the angels will not enter a house in which there is a صورة. [See also تَصَاوِيرُ.]

[Hence, a mental image, or a likeness of any object formed or conceived by the mind; an idea: a meaning that occurs often in philosophical works and the like.]

And the essence of a thing; that by being which a thing is what it is; or the property or quality, or the whole set of properties or qualities, by which a thing is what it is; synonymous with حَقِيقَةٌ [specific character]. What makes a thing mentally distinguishable, by particular persons and not by ordinary people, from other things — as the صورة by which a man is specially distinguished, consisting in reason and thought and other distinctive attributes.

A quality, an attribute, a property; or a description, meaning the whole set of the qualities, attributes, or properties of a thing; or the state, condition, or case of a thing; synonymous with صِفَةٌ.

[The description, statement, or form, of the question is of such a kind]صُورَةُ المَسْأَلَةِ كَذَا
[My Lord came to me tonight in a most goodly state]أَتَانِى اللَّيْلَةَ رَبِّى فِى أَحْسَنِ صُورَةٍ

So in the saying of the Prophet; or صورة may here refer to the Prophet, and may mean outward state, or manner of being, or condition.

The plural is صُوَرٌ, صِوَرٌ, and صُورٌ; the second of these is rare, and some disallow it.

The Prophet's saying خَلَقَ ٱللّٰهُ آدَمَ عَلَى صُورَتِهِ may mean that God created Adam in the صورة [or form, etc.] that He, namely God, originated and ordained; or in the صورة proper to Adam himself.

So in a tradition cited under مُحَرَّمٌ, where it is said that the صورة is pronounced sacred, that is, it is not to be slapped; and in another, where it is said that the Prophet disliked marking the صورة with a hot iron.

It is Allah Who has made for you the earth as a resting place, and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape- and made your shapes beautiful,- and has provided for you Sustenance, of things pure and good;- such is Allah your Lord. So Glory to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!

64:3
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَوَّرَكُمْ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَكُمْ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

A herd of [wild] bulls or cows; also صُوَارٌ, صِيَارٌ [written صِيّار in the CK], and صُوَّارٌ [wrongly written صُوَار in some copies of the K, which, as the TA observes, is a repetition].

The plural of the first three of these is صِيرَانٌ.

He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
