1.1he, or it, was, or became, small, or littleصَغِرَ

Muḍāriʿ of the first of the two verbs صَغُرَ; muḍāriʿ of the second is صَغَرَ. Maṣdar صِغَرٌ and صَغَارَةٌ of the former, and صَغَرٌ and صُغْرَانٌ of the latter; [but Ibr D thinks that there is no reason for this assertion with respect to صغران].

صِغَرٌ is the contrary of كِبَرٌ, or of عِظَمٌ, as also صَغَارَةٌ.

Or صِغَرٌ relates to body, or corporeal substance, [and to years, or age; and صَغُرَ, with this maṣdar, said of a human being, means he was a child, not having reached puberty]; and صَغَارَةٌ relates to estimation, rank or dignity.

Maṣdar صِغَرٌ, صَغَارٌ, صَغَارَةٌ, صُغْرَانٌ, صُغْرٌ and صَغَرٌ.

Or صَغَرٌ is the maṣdar of صَغِرَ, meaning he was, or became, vile, base, or ignominious; and so are صُغْرٌ and صَغَارٌ. Or صَغَارٌ means being small, or little, in estimation, rank or dignity.
