Core sense — the sky smote them with a thunderbolt; he swooned; he diedgenerated

It works as the passive of the verb in the phrase above; Z, in the article سرف; also in the article صقع.

صَقِعَ has the same meaning, and so do صُعِقَ and صُقِعَ.

maṣdar صَعَقٌ or صَعْقَةٌ, or both, and صَعْقٌ and تَصْعَاقٌ.

Because of a sound he heard, such as the loud sound of a wall or the like falling, or of part of a mountain.

صُعِقَ means the same.

فَصَعِقَ مَنْ فِى السَّمٰوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِى الأَرْضِ in the Qurʾān [39:68] means: and those in the heavens and those on the earth shall die; or shall fall down dead, or in a swoon; or shall lose their reason.

The Trumpet will (just) be sounded, when all that are in the heavens and on earth will swoon, except such as it will please Allah (to exempt). Then will a second one be sounded, when, behold, they will be standing and looking on!

52:45
فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ

So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),-

(TA.) صُعَاقٌ [as an inf. n.] signifies The sounding of thunder: and صَعِقَ , aor. صَعَقَ , inf. n. صُعَاقٌ , is said of a bull, meaning He bellowed, or lowed: (TA:) and likewise of a man [app. as meaning he bel-lowed, or roared]. A maṣdar of صَعِقَ [q. v.]. It primarily means a swooning, or becoming insensible, because of a loud sound that one hears; and sometimes such that one dies from it.

is an inf. n. of صَعِقَ [q. v.]: (Msb, K:) and primarily signifies A swooning, or becoming insensible, in consequence of a vehement sound that one hears; and sometimes, such that one dies in consequence thereof: afterwards often used as meaning Death. وَلَمَّا جَآءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَـٰتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِىٓ أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ ۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَىٰنِى وَلَـٰكِنِ ٱنظُرْ إِلَى ٱلْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُۥ فَسَوْفَ تَرَىٰنِى ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُۥ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُۥ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا ۚ فَلَمَّآ أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe."

Nounصَاعِقَةٌ1 sense

Core sense — a thunderbolt; fire falling from the sky; a destructive punishmentgenerated

[A thunderbolt; that is,] a thing descending from the thunder that alters and burns whatever it strikes; or fire that falls from the sky in loud thunder; or fire that God sends with loud thunder.

Or the scourge in the hand of [the angel who is] the driver of the clouds, which burns whatever it comes upon; or a loud sound from a thundering with which a piece of fire falls; or the sound of thunder.

Wahb Ibn-Munebbih, asked about it — whether it was a tangible thing, or fire, or something else — answered that he thought no one knew it except God.

According to some it also means the cry, or loud cry, [that is an agent] of punishment; and death, according to Katádeh and Mukátil; or a cause of death; and any destructive punishment.

صَعْقَةٌ and صَاقِعَةٌ are dialectal variants of it. The plural is صَوَاعِقُ.

But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on.
