Form 1صَرْخَةٌ1 sense
muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarصَرْخَةٌ صُرَاخٌ

Core sense — he called out loudly; he cried for aidgenerated

A maṣdar of صَرَخَ: calling out, or crying out, violently, or screaming, on an occasion of fright or alarm, or of some affliction or bad accident.

Maṣdar صَرْخَةٌ and اصطرخ, both meaning the same.

the raising of the voice, calling out or crying out; or doing so violently; and the calling for aidصُرَاخٌ

Also a maṣdar of صَرَخَ. The meaning of calling for aid is said to be figurative, but is conventionally treated as proper.

AHát: استصرخ means the same.

اصطرخوا is synonymous with تصارخوا, meaning صَرَخُوا, as also استصرخوا; or rather it means that they called out one to another.

[It was like the violent crying out, or the screaming, of the pregnant woman]كَانَتْ كَصَرْخَةِ الحُبْلَى

A proverb, said of a thing that comes upon one suddenly, when he is not aware.

And صُرَاخٌ is also an inf. n. of صَرَخَ , (A, Mgh, Msb,) and signifies The raising the voice, calling or calling out, crying or crying out: (S, A, L, K:) or doing so vehemently: (L, K:) and the calling, or crying, for aid, or succour; (A;) which last meaning is said to be tropical, but conventionally regarded as proper; (MF;) as also صَرِيخٌ , (S, TA,) which is likewise an inf. n. of صَرَخَ : (A, Mgh:) one says, صَرَخَ , aor. صَرُخَ (A, MA, Mgh, L, Msb) and صَرَخَ , (MA,) inf. n. صُرَاخٌ (A, MA, Mgh, L, Msb) and صَرِيخٌ , (A, Mgh,) He raised his voice, called or called out, cried or cried out: (A, MA, L, Msb:) or did so vehemently: (Mgh, L, Msb: *) and he called, or cried, for aid, or succour, (A, Mgh, L, Msb,) saying, وَا غَوْثَاهْ [Alas, a crying for aid!] and وَا صَرْخَتَاهْ [Alas, a crying of alarm!]; (L;) and استصرخ signifies the same: (AHát, L:) and اصطرخوا is syn. with تصارخوا ; (S, TA;) meaning صَرَخُوا ; as also استصرخوا ; (TA;) or [rather] meaning They called or called out, &c., ( صَرَخُوا ,) one to another. (TK.) كَانَتْ كَصَرْخَةِ الحُبْلَى [It was like the vehement crying-out, or the screaming, of the pregnant woman] is a prov., said of a thing that comes upon one suddenly, when he is not aware. (T.)

He aided, or succoured, another, in answer to a call or cry.

AHát: the hamza in the first of these verbs is said to have a privative effect, so that أَصْرَخْتُهُ means I made his crying, or violent crying, to cease.

صَارِخَةٌ has the meaning of the maṣdar of this verb, as a quasi-maṣdar of the measure فَاعِلَةٌ.

صَرِيخٌ may also have this meaning in the Qur'ān 36:43, as is said in the Ksh and by Bd.

He aided, or succoured, another; in answer to a call, or cry; (S, A, Mgh, Msb;) as also استصرخ : (AHát, L:) the | in the former verb is said to have a privative effect, so that أَصْرَخْتُهُ signifies I made his crying, or vehement crying, &c., to cease: (TA:) and صَارِخَةٌ has the signification of the inf. n. of this verb, as an inf. n. [or rather quasi-inf. n.] of the measure فَاعِلَةٌ ; (K;) and صَرِيخٌ also may have this signification in the Kur xxxvi. 43, as is said in the Ksh [and by Bd]. (TA.)

He made an effort to call out, or to scream; or he made an effort in calling out, in calling out violently, and in crying for aid.

وَهُمْ يَصْطَرِخُونَ فِيهَا رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَـٰلِحًا غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ ۚ أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُم مَّا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَن تَذَكَّرَ وَجَآءَكُمُ ٱلنَّذِيرُ ۖ فَذُوقُوا۟ فَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِن نَّصِيرٍ

Therein will they cry aloud (for assistance): "Our Lord! Bring us out: we shall work righteousness, not the (deeds) we used to do!" - "Did We not give you long enough life so that he that would should receive admonition? and (moreover) the warner came to you. So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds): for the wrong-doers there is no helper."

10.1

He called, or cried, to him for aid, or succour.

10.1.1

And he incited, urged, or induced him to call out or cry out, [apparently for aid,] or to do so violently.

10.1.2a voice, or cry, came to the man informing him of an event for which his aid was invoked, or announcing a deathاُسْتُصْرِخَ الإِنْسَانُ
the tribe's being called on for aid to do what is needed for the deadاِسْتِصْرَاخُ الحَىِّ

Hence the tradition of Ibn-'Omar, فَٱسْتُصْرِخَ عَلَى ٱمْرَأَتِهِ, not بِٱمْرَأَتِهِ, meaning: and he was called to help in furnishing for the grave, and burying, the corpse of his wife; or it may mean that he was informed that his wife was at the point of death.

Az says that he had not heard صَارِخٌ in this sense on the authority of anyone except As; but all agree that it has the second of the senses given above, and that مُصْرِخٌ has the last of those senses.

A proverb, applied in the case of a mean man who is aided by one meaner than himself.

I am not your aider, nor are you my aidersمَا أَنَا بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُصْرِخِىَّ

وَقَالَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لَمَّا قُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَعَدَكُمْ وَعْدَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِىَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍ إِلَّآ أَن دَعَوْتُكُمْ فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ لِى ۖ فَلَا تَلُومُونِى وَلُومُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُم ۖ مَّآ أَنَا۠ بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُصْرِخِىَّ ۖ إِنِّى كَفَرْتُ بِمَآ أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ مِن قَبْلُ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

And Satan will say when the matter is decided: "It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty."
