muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـِيَفْعِلُmaṣdarشَكْوٌ
Core sense — he complained of his case, he made complaint to Godgenerated
1.1he complained of his case to God; he told God the weakness of his condition—شَكَا أَمْرَهُ إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ
First person شَكَوْتُ, of which شَكَيْتُ is a dialectal variant [and of the latter شَكِوَ]; maṣdar شَكْوٌ or شَكْوَى, or this last is a simple substantive.
It is also pronounced شَكْوًى and شِكَايَةٌ, with kesr, in which the ى is [said to be] substituted for و, because most maṣdars of the measure فِعَالَةٌ from verbs ending in a weak radical belong to verbs in which that letter is ى; or this also is a simple substantive; and شَكَاةٌ, or this too is a simple substantive; and شَكَاوَةٌ.
شَكِيَّةٌ is a transitive verb; اشتكى means the same, as also تشكّى.
he complained of his case to God—اشتكى
Equivalent to اشتكى أَمْرَهُ.
he complained of his case to God—تشكّى

See form 4.
Like شَكَوْتُهُ.
Er-Rāghib: الشِكَايَةُ is the showing, or revealing, of grief or sorrow. Hence the saying in the Qur'ān 12:86, إِنَّمَا أَشْكُو بَثِّى وَحُزْنِى إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ [I only show my grief and my lamentation to God], and in the same 58:1, وَتَشْتَكِى إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ [And she shows her grief, or sorrow, to God].
The primary meaning of الشَّكْوُ is the opening of the small skin for water or milk called شَكْوَة and showing what is in it, so that the word is as though originally metaphorical [though it is what is termed حَقِيقَةٌ عُرْفِيَّةٌ (explained in art. حق)], like the phrases بَثَثْتُ لَهُ مَا فِى وِعَائِى and نَفَضْتُ لَهُ مَا فِى جِرَابِى, meaning 'I showed him what was in my heart.'
1.1.1he stretched out his neck and made much moaning—شَكَا
Said of a camel fatigued by journeying: it prolonged its complaining voice.
1.1.2he complained of his disease, or sickness—شَكَاهُ
Maṣdar شَكْوٌ, شَكَاةٌ and شَكْوَى. Said of a diseased, or sick, person, in relation to his disease. [According to the TK, followed here, as in many other cases, by Freytag, it means the disease afflicted him; which I think is certainly a mistake.]
he complained of his disease, or sickness—تشكّى
he complained of his disease, or sickness—اشتكى
These are the same as شَكَا مَرَضَهُ.
Or تشكّى and اشتكى mean, or also mean, he was, or became, diseased, or sick.
he had a pain, or a disease, in one of his limbs—اشتكى عُضْوًا مِنْ أَعْضَائِهِ
he had a pain, or a disease, in one of his limbs—تشكّى
Originally, he complained of a pain, or a disease, in one of his members; and شَكَا عُضْوًا is not uncommonly used in the same sense.
One often says this of a brute. As, explaining القُلَابُ as meaning 'a certain disease that attacks the camel', says يَشْتَكِى مِنْهُ قَلْبَهُ [he has a pain in his heart from it; in which قَلْبَهُ, though determinate, may be taken as an explicative, like بَطْنَهُ in the phrase أَلِمَ بَطْنَهُ, which see].
1.1.3he is accused, or suspected, of such a thing—هُوَ يُشْكَى بِكَذَا
Synonym يُتَّهَمُ بِهِ. It is mentioned in the K as though it were from أُشْكِىَ, and the author of the TK holds it to be so; but it is from شُكِىَ, as though meaning he is complained of by reason of such a thing. Mentioned by Yaakoob in the 'Alfádh'.
1.2the nails of such a one became split in several, or many, places—شكى فُلَانٌ
Thus in my original; apparently شَكَا or شَكَى. Mentioned by Az.
