That is, from سَاعَة to سَاعَة.

Or: he remained behind, held back, or delayed, for a سَاعَة, that is, a time, or an hour. (Ibn-'Abbād)
Core sense — a time, a while; a portion of the nightgenerated
See سَاعَةٌ, in two places.
Core sense — a period, or portion, of the night; a whilegenerated
And سُوَاعٌ: the same as هدْءٌ, as used in this phrase.
Or: after about a third or a fourth part of the night had passed, when people were asleep, or at rest, and the night and the traveller's foot were still; or after a third part of the night.
Or the phrase means he came to us after a سَاعَة, that is, a short period, or an hour, of the night.
Core sense — an hour; a time, a while; the resurrectiongenerated
[An hour;] one of the divisions of the night and the day, which together consist of twenty-four such divisions, each of the two consisting of twelve of them when they are of equal length.
It is also called سَاعَةٌ فَلَكِيَّةٌ (an astronomical hour; fifteen دَرَجَات of time; sixty minutes of time), because ساعة by itself is often used vaguely, meaning what is called سَاعَةٌ زَمَانِيَّةٌ, that is, a time of night or of day.
But the Arabs use it absolutely, meaning a time; a while; a space, or period; an indefinite [short] time; a little while; a short portion, or division, of the night and of the day.
Plural سَاعَاتٌ and سَاعٌ and سِوَاعٌ; or the second of these is rather an ism jamʿ of which ساعة is the ism waḥda.
Used without restriction in the Qur'ān 7:32 and in other places.
Or: they shall not seek to remain behind, by reason of intense terror.
So in a tradition. Not the first astronomical ساعة, for then it would necessarily mean that a man coming in the latter part of it would be on a par with the former man, which is not the case.
So in art. انف; or it means السَّاعَةَ, explained above.
Or the time of it: because of the quickness with which its reckoning will be accomplished; or because it will come upon mankind suddenly, in a moment, and all creatures will die at one cry.
Er-Rāghib: it is also called السَّاعَةُ الكُبْرَى.
Qur'ān 54:1.
Qur'ān 7:186 and 79:42.
Qur'ān 31, last verse, and 43:85.
Also the death of one generation, called, to distinguish it, السَّاعَةُ الوُسْطَى.
Said by Mohammad when he saw 'AbdAllah Ibn-Uneys; and accordingly it is said that he was the last of the Companions to die. Er-Rāghib.
Also the death of any man, called, to distinguish it, السَّاعَةُ الصُّغْرَى.
Qur'ān 6:31. Er-Rāghib.
Also difficulty, distress, or affliction; and so السَّاعُ.
Also distance, or remoteness.

Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the Hour (of Judgment) in awe.
On the Day that the Hour will be established, the guilty will be struck dumb with despair.
On the Day that the Hour will be established,- that Day shall (all men) be sorted out.
Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.
They ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time?

Core sense — a certain idol of the people of Noah; a period of the nightgenerated
See سَوْعٌ.
In the CK the headword is erroneously written without tanwīn.
It was worshipped in Noah's time; then the deluge buried it, but Iblees dug it up and it was worshipped again; so says Lth. Then it became the property of the tribe of Hudheyl, and was at Ruhāt, and pilgrimage was performed to it; or it belonged to the tribe of Hemdān.
Abu-l-Mundhir says: I have not heard it mentioned in the poems of Hudheyl; but one of the Arabs, in verse, mentions Hudheyl as paying devotion to it.
It is said that it had the form of a woman: [if so, as a feminine proper name, it would be without tanwīn: but] it is mentioned in the Qur'ān 71:22, and is there with tanwīn.
