Form 1سَلَكَ الطَّرِيقَ2 senses
muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُmaṣdarسُلُوكٌ سَلْكٌ

Core sense — he travelled along the road; he inserted a thing into a thinggenerated

[سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا is also often used figuratively, meaning he pursued a course of conduct or the like.]

. [But I doubt that this latter is correctly used as a maṣdar of the verb in the sense given here.]

he entered into the place—سَلَكَ المَكَانَ

[In these and similar cases the preposition فِى seems to be left out, and the noun therefore put in the accusative, as in دَخَلَ البَيْتَ and the like: for it is said that] سَلَكَ in the sense of "he entered" is intransitive.

انسلك also has this meaning.

اسلك as an intransitive verb [in the sense of سَلَكَ ] is extraordinary.

1.2he made him travel along, or enter, the road, or the place—سَلَكَهُ الطَّرِيقَ

The same is said with المَكَانَ, فِيهِ, اسلكهُ إِيَّاهُ (this form is also allowable), فِيهِ, عَلَيْهِ, and سَلَكَ بِهِ الطَّرِيقَ.

سلّكهُ, maṣdar تَسْلِيكٌ, means the same as [سَلَكَهُ used in this way, and] اسلكهُ.

I made the thing enter, or inserted it, into the thing—سلَكَتُ الشَّىْءَ فِى الشَّىْءِ

. Or: I made the thing go, or pass, through the thing.

أَسْلَكْتُهُ means the same. [See an example of this last verb in a verse of 'Abd-Menáf Ibn-Riba El-Hudhalee, under إِذَا.]

he put the thread into the needle—سَلَكَ الخَيْطَ فِى الإِبْرَةِ
he inserted [his hand, or arm, into the opening at the neck and bosom of the shirt]—سَلَكَ يَدَهُ فِى الجَيْبِ

Also أَسْلَكَهَا; and likewise of putting the hand into a skin for milk or water, and the like.

thus we have caused it to enter [into the hearts of the sinners]—كَذٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِى قُلُوبِ المُجْرِمِينَ

Qur'ān 26:200.

[and He has caused it to enter into springs in the earth]—فَسَلَكَهُ يَنَابِيعَ فِى الأَرْضِ

(TA.) And سلَكَتُ الشَّىْءَ فِى الشَّىْءِ , (S, Msb,) inf. n. سَلْكٌ , (S,) I made the thing to enter, or I inserted it, or introduced it, into the thing: (S:) or I made the thing to go, or pass, through the thing: (Msb:) and أَسْلَكْتُهُ signifies the same. (S. [See an ex. of the latter verb in a verse of 'Abd-Menáf Ibn-Riba El-Hudhalee, voce إِذَا ; cited there and here also in the S.]) You say, سَلَكَ الخَيْطَ فِى الإِبْرَةِ He inserted the thread into the needle. Thread, or string, with which one sews; or on which beads are strung, but not having beads on it — if it has beads on it, it is called سِمْطٌ.

In the present day it means wire.

It is a plural [or rather an ism jamʿ] whose singular [or ism waḥda] is سِلْكَةٌ; the plural of paucity of سِلْكٌ is أَسْلَاكٌ, and the plural of multitude is سُلُوكٌ.

Thread, or string, (S, Mgh, K,) with which one sews: (K:) or upon which beads are strung; (Ham p. 42;) [but] not having beads upon it; for if it have, it is termed سِمْطٌ : (S and Mgh in art. سمط :) [in the present day it signifies wire:] a pl. [or rather a coll. gen. n.] of which the sing. [or n. un.] is سِلْكَةٌ : the pl. [of pauc.] of سِلْكٌ is أَسْلَاكٌ and [of mult.] سُلُوكٌ . (K.) [Hence,] one says, هٰذَا كَلَامٌ رَقِيقُ السِّلْكِ This is speech, or language, [subtile; or] abstruse in its course, or tenour; i. e. خَفِىُّ المَسْلَكِ . (TA.) And مَا أَنْتَ بِمُنْجَرِدِ السِّلْكِ , (AZ, TA in art. جرد ,) or بِمُتَجَرِّدِ السِّلْكِ , (so in a copy of the A in that art.,) said to one who is shy, or bashful, meaning [Thou art] not free from shyness in appearing [before others]: (AZ, TA in that art.:) or thou art not celebrated, or well-known.
