He visited him: literally, he met him with his زَوْر [i.e. chest, or bosom]; or he went to his زَوْر, that is, his direction; [or] he inclined towards him; [see also زَوِرَ]; or he went to him; or he went to him out of a desire to see him.

Aboo-ʿAdnán says — perhaps reading نُزَوَّرُ, which may be the correct reading — that he means: we are not to be slandered, because of our hardness or hardiness, nor to be held weak.

And [in like manner] زوّر الحَدِيثَ He rectified, or corrected, the story, narrative, or tradition, removing, or doing away with, its obliquity: and تزوّرهُ he did so ( زِوّرهُ ) to himself. A lie; a falsehood; an untruth — so called because it is a saying that deviates from the truth. So in the Qur'ān 22:31.

So it is explained in the tradition. [See art. شبع.]

and those who do not bear false witnessوَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَ

So too in the Qur'ān 25:72. But there are other explanations of these words, given below.

Or the meaning here is the places where the Christians sit and talk; or where the Jews and Christians sit and talk; or the festivals of the Jews and Christians; or a place, or places, where people sit and hear singing; or places where people sit and amuse themselves with idle or vain diversion.

But ISd says: I do not know how this is, unless he means the assemblies of polytheism, which include the festivals of the Christians and other festivals.

Or: no strength of judgment; or no judgment, and no understanding or intelligence, to be relied on — for زُورٌ also means understanding, intellect, or intelligence, according to Yaakoob, and so does زَوْرٌ, though A ʿObeyd thinks it a mistranscription for لَا زَبْرَ.
