(S, A, K.) أَزْهَرْتَ زَنْدِى [lit., Thou hast made my piece of stick, or wood, for producing fire to emit shining fire, or abundant fire; meaning, thou hast made me to accomplish my want: see 1]. be vigorous, earnest, energetic, or diligent in it—اِزْدَهِرْ بِهِ

Or: he rejoiced in it, and his face became shining because of it; or he was mindful of it.

That is, in the thing that I command you to do; and الاِزْدِهَارُ بِشَىْءٍ means, by implication, your commanding your companion to be vigorous, earnest, energetic, or diligent in the thing you command him to do. All these meanings come from زَهْرَةٌ in the sense of beauty and brightness.

take care of this, and do not lose it, but be mindful of it—اِزْدَهِرْ بِهٰذَا فَإِنَّ لَهُ شَأْنًا

Said in a tradition: Moḥammad bequeathed to Aboo-Katádeh the vessel from which he performed ablution and said this to him [for it is a thing of importance]. Or: rejoice in this, and let your face become shining by means of it. Or, according to Th, take it up, or charge yourself with it; and he says that this verb is Syriac. A 'Obeyd thinks it Nabathean or Syriac; Aboo-Sa'eed says it is Arabic.

Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them: but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring.
