The variants زَفَفْتُهَا and زَفَّتْهَا النِّسَآءُ (, maṣdar زَفٌّ and زِفَافٌ, though the latter may be a simple noun), and ازفّها, ازففتها, ازفّتها النسآء, ازدفّها, ازدففتها [or ازدفّتها النسآء], all have the same meaning.

With festive parade or pageantry, and generally with music.

Er-Rāghib: زفّ العروس is a figurative phrase, from زَفْزَفَةُ النَّعَامِ, because she is conducted with joyous eagerness.

Mj: said of an ostrich, it means he hastened so that a sound such as is termed زَفِيف was heard to come from his wings.

Or زَفٌّ and إِزْفَافٌ are like ذَمِيلٌ [which means going at a gentle pace, or a pace above what is termed العَنَقُ and above what is termed التَّزَيُّدُ]. In the CK الزَّمِيل is put for الذَّمِيل.

Or it means the ostrich's first running; or زَفِيفٌ has that last meaning; or it means going quickly and with short steps; or going quickly, with short steps, and quietly.

the people hastened in their walking or going along—زَفَّ القَوْمُ فِى مَشْيِهِمْ

Or he spread his wings; and so زَفْزَفَ, apparently in either sense, which also means he flapped his wings in running.

زَفْزَفَت means the same; or, with maṣdar زَفْزَفَةٌ, it blew violently, as in the T; or it blew gently.

The maṣdar means the wind's putting the dry herbage in motion and making a sound in it; this is said of dry herbage.

It is related in a tradition that the Prophet said this to a woman; some copies of the K have تُزَفْزِفِينَ, with damm to the first letter.

She replied, “The fever, may God not bless it;” and he said, “Do not revile the fever, for it does away with the sins of the sons of Adam as the blacksmith's skin with which he blows his fire does away with the dross of the iron.”

So تُرْعَدِينَ; in some copies of the K تُرْعِدِينَ. [See also مَزْفُوفٌ.]

Or it is with fet-h to the ت, that is, تَزَفْزَفِينَ [for تَتَزَفْزَفينَ, from تَزَفْزَفَتْ], meaning: that you tremble, or quake?

Or it is with kesr to the [latter] ز [تُزَفْزِفِينَ], meaning: that you moan, as one who is sick does?

Or, as some relate it, it is with ر in the place of the ز, that is, تُزَفْرِفِينَ, with the second of the meanings explained above, or nearly so.
