Also: he was angry with him, with the anger that comes from a friend; he reproached him, or blamed him angrily or severely; and he mocked, scoffed, or laughed at him, derided him, or ridiculed him.

with kesr, but written by some with fet-h [ زَرايَة thus in the CK, in one of my copies of the S, and in my MS. copy of the K].

Other maṣdars: زَرْىٌ, زَرْيَةٌ [perhaps a mistranscription for what next follows], مَزْرِيَةٌ, مَزْرَاةٌ, and زُرْيَانٌ with damm; but according to the copies of the T and M, زَرَيَانٌ, تزرّى عليه, and ازرى عليه, this last being rare; and also اِزْدَرَاهُ.

Form 4ازرى بِهِ1 sense
maṣdarإِزْرَآءٌ

Core sense — he held it in mean estimation, he contemned him, he despised himgenerated

4.1he held it in little, or mean, estimation, or in contemptاِزْدَرَاهُ

. Said of a thing, or of a case or affair.

Also of the same meaning as قَصَّرَ بِهِ [app. here meaning He fell short of that estimation which was required by him, or due to him].

he contemned, or despised, himاِزْدَرَاهُ

[And so, app., استزراهُ ]; or the meaning is he made him to be contemned or despised, حَقَرَهُ or حَقَّرَهُ, according to different copies of the S. [But whether this last explanation is meant to relate to ازرى به and ازدراه or to the latter alone is not clear.]

Also: he lowered his condition, or estimation.

Also: he brought against him the imputation of a fault, or vice, or the like ('Eyn), or a thing, or an affair, or an action, by which he wished to involve him in confusion.

ازرى بِعِلْمِهِ and زَرَى بِهِ, mentioned but not explained by Lh, are thought by ISd to mean قَصَّرَ بِهِ [app. meaning He fell short of that estimation which was required by, or due to, his knowledge].

"I tell you not that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden, nor claim I to be an angel. Nor yet do I say, of those whom your eyes do despise that Allah will not grant them (all) that is good: Allah knoweth best what is in their souls: I should, if I did, indeed be a wrong-doer."
