Muḍāriʿ apparently رَمِدَ; maṣdar رَمْدٌ and ارمدوا. A 'Obeyd wrongly says رَمِدُوا, with kesr to the م, and ارمدُوا, with teshdeed to the د.

They (a people, or party) perished; or they became like رَمَاد [or ashes]. رَمَدَ عَيْشُهُمْ or ارمد عيشهم has the first of these meanings.

So in the T and L and TA, not رَمُدَ. Said of a garment (En-Nadr), or of a thing.

Said as a proverb, meaning: your brother did a good deed and then spoiled it. It is applied to one who spoils what he has set right; or to one who does a kind act and then spoils it by reproach, or cuts it short.

2.2she secreted milk in her udder a little before bringing forth—رَمَّدَتْ

Maṣdar تَرْمِيدٌ and ارمدت; said of a ewe or she-goat, of a she-camel, and of a cow. Synonym أَضْرَعَتْ.

Or she showed herself to be pregnant and became large in her udder; also أَضْرَعَتْ. Or she secreted a little milk at the time of bringing forth. Or she showed herself to be pregnant, and became large in her belly and swollen in her udder and her vulva. Or she secreted a little milk at the time of bringing forth, or a little before it.

The adjective applied to her in this case is مُرَمِّدٌ [without ة]. [See also رَبَّدَتْ.]

[The ewes have secreted milk in their udders]—رَمَّدَتِ الضَّأْنُ فَرَبِّقْ رَبِّقْ

I Aar: therefore prepare the أَرْبَاق, prepare the ارباق [that is, the loops into which their heads are to be inserted], for the ewes secrete milk in their udders only عَلَى رَأْسِ الوَلَدِ [at the time of bringing forth, or when about to produce the young].

Ashes; that is, charcoal reduced to particles by being burnt; burnt coals that have become mixed with dust, and been extinguished, and reduced to particles.

رِمْدِدَآءُ means the same; and so does أَرْمِدَآءُ, like أَرْبِعَآءُ, or أَرْمَدَآءُ, like أَرْبَعَآءُ, or إِرْمِدآءُ (so in two copies of the S, where it is said to be like إِرْبِعَآءُ, and so in the M), as some say.

Or أَرْمِدَآءُ is a plural of رَمَادٌ, as is also أَرْمدَةٌ; and إِرْمِدَآءُ, mentioned on the authority of Kr and [said to be] the only word of its measure [though إِرْبِعَآءُ also is mentioned by IHsh], is an ism jamʿ. [رَمَادٌ is a coll. gen. n.,] and رَمَادَةٌ [is its ism waḥda, and as such] means a portion of ashes.

The parable of those who reject their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a tempestuous day: No power have they over aught that they have earned: that is the straying far, far (from the goal).

It was so called because the earth became like ashes from the drought; or, as some say, because the drought continued until the earth and the trees were the colour of ashes. The first reason is preferable.
