He stuck, or fixed, a spear, or a stick, or some other thing, upright into the ground. Muḍāriʿ رَكُزَ and رَكِزَ. Also ركّز, maṣdar تَرْكِيزٌ.

. [By hardening the soil.]

God fixed the metals, or minerals, in the mountains—رَكَزَ ٱللّٰهُ المعَادِنَ فِى الجِبَالِ

Or: he caused them to exist in them.

he buried the property—رَكَزَ المَالَ

It (a spear) became stuck, or fixed, in the ground. (Msb.) He became fixed (K, * TA) in his place of abode. (TA.) You say, دَخَلَ فُلَانٌ فَٱرْتَكَزَ فِى مَحَلِّهِ لَا يَبْرَحُ [Such a one entered, and remained fixed in his place of abode, not quitting it]. (A, TA.) ارتكز عَلَى القَوْسِ He put the extremity of the bow upon the ground and leaned upon it. (S, A, * TA.) And ارتكز على رُمْحِهِ He bore ( تَحَامَلَ ) upon the head of his spear, leaning upon it, in order that he might die. (Mgh, from a trad.)

Golius assigns to it also the meaning of beauty (pulchritudo), apparently because he found, in a copy of the K, وَالحُسْنُ in the place of والحِسُّ.

But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them?

Metal, or other mineral; what God has caused to exist in the mines; meaning تِبْر that is created in the earth; also رَكِيزَةٌ.

The former is the plural of رِكْزَةٌ; or, Ahmad Ibn-Khálid: it is the plural of رَكِيزَةٌ.

Also pieces of large size, like stones such as are called جَلَامِيد, of silver and of gold, that are taken out of the earth, or out of the mine.

According to the people of El-'Irák, any metals or other minerals; or buried treasure of the people of the Time of Ignorance.

The first of the meanings given above is the primary one, and ancient wealth buried in the earth is likened to metals or minerals.

Or, according to some of the people of El-Hijáz, it means specially property buried by men before the time of El-Islám, and not metals or other minerals.

It is said in a tradition that the fifth part of what is called رِكَازٌ goes to the government treasury; or, in another relation, of what is called رَكِيزٌ, as though the latter were a plural (or rather an ism jamʿ) of رَكِيزَةٌ, or the former of رِكَازَةٌ.
