Core sense — he desired it, he coveted it; he made petition to him; it was widegenerated
1.1the [soul's] hoping largely, and desiring much—رَغَبُ النَّفْسِ
maṣdar رَغْبَةٌ and رَغْبَى [and apparently رَغَبٌ and the like, mentioned below].
He desired a thing — apparently in an absolute sense, and also strongly, eagerly, greedily, with avidity, excessively, or blameably; he coveted a thing, longed for it, or lusted after it.
1.1.1he desired it, he wished for it—رَغِبَ فِيهِ

he desired it, he wished for it—رَغِبَهُ
he desired it, he wished for it—ارتغب فيه
[I have no desire, or wish, for it]—مَا لِى فِيهِ رَغْبَةٌ
Also رُغْبَى and رَغْبَآءُ, in the same sense.
fear of you is better than love of you—رُهْبَاكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ رُغْبَاكَ
رهباك here is a maṣdar prefixed to its object, and likewise رغباك.
It is also said to mean: being given something through fear of you is better than through desire for you. A proverb, like رَهَبُوتٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ رَحَمُوتٍ. Freytag explains it differently.
1.1.2he did not desire it, or wish for it—رَغِبَ عَنْهُ
He shunned or avoided it, abstained from it, or deliberately left it, gave it up, or forsook it.
1.1.3he made petition to him, asked him, sought of him, or demanded of him—رَغِبَ إِلَيْهِ
he made petition to such a one for such a thing—رَغِبَ إِلَى فُلَانٍ فِى كَذَا
to God I humble myself and make petition—إِلَى ٱللّٰهِ أَرْغَبُ
Or: he prayed to him, or supplicated him, with humility, or with sincerity and earnestness; or he humbled himself and made petition to him.
Synonymous with أَضْرَعُ and إِلَيْهش أَرْفَعُ رَغْبَتِى [to Him I raise my humble petition].
[Fear should be of God, not of a creature; and petition and the like should be to Him]—الرُّهْبَى مِنَ ٱللّٰهِ وَالرُّغْبَى إِلَيْهِ
So Lth, under the article رهب.
See also another example in a verse cited under رَغِيبَةٌ.
1.1.4he held himself above, or superior to, him, or it—رَغِبَ بِنَفْسِهِ عَنْهُ
[Literally, he made himself not desirous of, or made himself shun, abstain from, or leave, him, or it; the ب having the same effect as in ذَهَبَ بِهِ and the like.]
I made such a one shun, abstain from, or leave this, disliking it for him—رَغِبْتُ بِفُلَانٍ عَنْ هٰذَا

Or: strongly, excessively, or blameably desirous of worldly goods, and one who made himself abundant in them; or, as some say, large in his hopes and desiring much.
According to the T, رُغْبُ البَطْنِ means voracity; and رُغْبٌ by itself, as it occurs in a tradition, is explained as capaciousness of the belly together with voracity.
he was, or became, liberal, or bountiful, and large in opinion or judgement—رَغُبَ رَأْيُهُ
