maṣdarرِضًىmuḍāriʿيَرْضَى أَرْضُوهُ
Core sense — he was pleased with him, he was content with him, he approved himgenerated
1.1he was pleased, or content, with him; he regarded him with favour; he liked, or approved, him—رَضِىَ عَنْهُ
Originally رَضِوَ, the و being changed into ى because of the kesreh. The tribe of Teiyi said رَضَا for رَضِىَ. In the Mughnee, under إِلَى, it is said to be a dialectal variant of رَضِىَ.
maṣdar رِضًى, رُضًى, رِضْوَانٌ, and رُضْوَانٌ, the last of the dialect of Keys and Temeem and mentioned by Sb; but all the readers of the Qur'ān read رضوان with kesr, except 'Ásim, who is said to have read it with damm.
The opposite of سَخِطَ, the object being a person.
Sb states that they also said رَضْيُوا, with the medial radical sākin, for رَضُوا, but this is extraordinary.
he was pleased, or content, with him; he liked, or approved, him—عَلَيْهِ
This is of the dialect of the people of El-Hijáz; according to Ks the verb is made transitive by means of على, in agreement with Sb's opinion about cases of this kind, so as to make it accord with its opposite, سَخِطَ.
he was pleased, or content, with him; he liked, or approved, him—مَرْضَاةٌ
This form is originally مَرْضَوَةٌ.
God is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him—رَضِىَ ٱللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ
In the Qur'ān (5, last verse but one, and 9:101, etc.); it means that God is well pleased with their deeds and they are well pleased with the recompense He has given them. Er-Rāghib: رِضَى العَبْدِ عَنِ ٱللّٰهِ means the servant's not being displeased with what God's decree has made to happen to him; and رِضَى ٱللّٰهِ عِنِ العَبْدِ means God's seeing the servant obedient to what He has commanded and refraining from what He has forbidden.
I was pleased, or content, with it; I liked, or approved, it—رَضِيتُهُ
[and رُضًى and رِضْوَانٌ, etc., as above].
[In the MA the verb is said to have the same meaning in the phrases رَضِيَهُ and رَضِىَ بِهِ as it has in رَضِىَ عَنْهُ and عَلَيْهِ, and ارتضاه is explained there in the same way; the like is implied in the S and K, and this clearly agrees with general usage.]
Or he chose it, or preferred it, the object being a thing; or, according to explanations of تَرْضَاهَا in the Qur'ān 2:139, I loved it, or liked it; I inclined to it; I had a desire for it.
I was pleased, or content, with it; I liked, or approved, it—رَضِيتُ بِهِ
I was pleased, or content, with it; I regarded it with favour—اِرْتَضَيْتُهُ
it [i. e. her silence] declares her permission—يَشْهَدُ عَلَى رِضَاهَا
A saying of the lawyers, about a woman whose consent to her marriage has been asked; permission indicates رِضًى.
I was pleased with him, or liked, approved, chose, or preferred him, as a companion—رَضِيتُ بِهِ صَاحِبًا
he approved him for that thing, or affair—رَضِيَهُ لِذٰلِكَ الأَمْرِ
he approved him for that thing, or affair—ارتضاهُ
he approved him, chose him, or preferred him, and judged him fit for his companionship and his service—ارتضاهُ لِصُحْبَتِهِ وَخِدْمَتِهِ
his living, or sustenance, was found pleasing, or was liked, or approved—رُضِيَتْ مَعيشَتُهُ
That is, he saw him, or judged him, to be fit for that thing, or affair.
One should not say رَضِيَتة here.

Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Holy Qur’ān (1934)
1.1.1I surpassed him in being pleased, or content—رَضَوْتُهُ
the thing surpassed in is رِضًى, i. e. being pleased, well pleased, content, as above.
he vied with me in being pleased, or content, and I surpassed him in it—رَاضَانِى فَرَضَوْتُهُ
The maṣdar of راضانى so used is مُرَاضَاةٌ and رِضَآءٌ, both of which mean the same as maṣdars of this verb.

(S, K.) رَضَوْتُهُ , (S, M, K,) aor. أَرْضُوهُ , (S, K,) signifies I surpassed him in رِضًى [i. e. in being pleased, well pleased, content, &c.: see above, second sentence]: (S, * M, K *:) so in the saying, رَاضَانِى فَرَضَوْتُهُ [He vied, or contended, with me in being pleased, well pleased, content, &c., and I surpassed him therein]: (S, M, K:) the inf. n. of راضانى thus used is مُرَاضَاةٌ and رِضَآءٌ ; (M;) both these signify the same (K, TA) as inf. ns. of this verb.
