there is also رَشِدَ, the first of the two verbs being better known and more chaste. Maṣdars: رُشْدٌ, which belongs to the first, and رَشَدٌ and رَشَادٌ, which belong to the second, or this last is a simple noun.

he took a right way to conduct his affair—استرشد لِأَمْرِهِ

he took a right course in his affair—رَشَدَ أَمْرَهُ

Often relating to religion: he held a right belief, he was orthodox.

This phrase is like أَلِمَ بَطْنَهُ and سَفِهَ رَأْيَهُ.

Some say that رَشْدٌ relates to the things of this life and to those of the life to come, and رَشَدٌ only to those of the life to come; but this distinction does not agree with what has been heard from the Arabs, nor with the readings of the Qurʾān, where some read رُشْد and others رَشَد in several verses.

When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.

Nounرِشْدَةٌ1 sense

A mode, or manner, of رَشَاد [or right procedure]; and رَشْدَةٌ is an act of that kind.

Also وُلِدَ لِرِشْدَةٍ and لِرَشْدَةٍ, the last according to Az and Fr, and said to be the more chaste, but the first allowable according to Ks, and preferred by Th in the Fs, and it seems to be the more common.

Opposite of لِزِنْيَةٍ, or of لِزَنْيَةٍ and لِغَيَّةٍ.

A maṣdar of form 1, or a simple noun: right procedure; the adoption, or pursuit, of a right way or course, as to a road and also as to an affair; and often meaning right belief, or orthodoxy. In both these senses it is the opposite of غَىٌّ and of ضَلَالٌ.

رَشَدَى is a noun synonymous with رَشَادٌ.

حَبُّ الرَّشَادِ is the same as الحُرْفُ in the dialect of El-ʿIrāq; they gave it this name as one of good omen, because حُرْفٌ means the same as حِرْمَانٌ.

رَشَادٌ and حُرْفٌ are names given to several species of cress, and حَبُّ الرَّشَادِ seems to mean the seed of رشاد. According to Golius, on the authority of Ibn-Beytār, رشاد is the name of the nasturtium. According to Delile (Flor. Aegypt., nos. 576, 580, 571, 584 and 610) it is the Arabic name of the lepidium sativum of Linn., the lepidium hortense of Forsk., and the cochlearia nilotica; رَشَادُ البَحْرِ, that is, nasturtium maritimum, is the name of the cakile maritima of Tournef., Desf., a pinnatifida, the bunias cakile of Linn., the isatis pinnata of Forsk.; الرَّشَادُ الجَبَلِىُّ that of the lunaria parviflora; and رَشَادُ البّرِّ, that is, nasturtium deserti, that of the raphanus recurvatus of Persoon, the raphanus lyratus of Forsk.
